Netflix dropped a sneak peek of the upcoming season on Thursday, April 11. Penelope, played by Nicola Coughlan, is on a mission to find the perfect husband, while Colin is back from his summer adventures looking better than ever.

After being confronted by Penelope about his previous statement of not wanting to marry her, Colin tries to make things right by offering to assist her in finding love. Shortly after, Penelope meets someone new, prompting Colin to reconsider if his feelings for her are purely platonic.

Colin seeks advice from his mother, Lady Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), asking her thoughts on whether friendship is the best foundation for love. Lady Bridgerton replies, "It may be uncommon, but you should always listen to your heart."

The trailer gives us a glimpse of what happened to Anthony and Kate from the previous season, where they finally found their happy ending. Season 3 of the popular Netflix series is inspired by Julia Quinn's book Romancing Mr. Bridgerton. Viewers have followed the evolving relationship between Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan, and Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton, throughout the first two seasons.

Before the regency show’s return, Coughlan, 37, discussed how she and Newton, 31, built Colin and Penelope’s onscreen chemistry.

“Luke and I read the books at the start of season 1, and we found it amusing. We joked about having to kiss and act out these scenes,” she shared with Entertainment Tonight in June 2023. “When season 3 rolled around, we realized, ‘Oh no.’ It was like kissing a friend. You can’t fake a kiss, you have to really mean it. It’s quite intense. Many elements from the books that fans anticipate have been included in the show.”

Coughlan later joked that she requested a more family-friendly version of the show for her parents. She mentioned on Australia's Today FM in February that even in season 1, she had to skip certain parts while watching with her mom. Her mom would comment on the short episodes, and Coughlan would play along, saying they were indeed short.

Newton, on the other hand, shared that having Coughlan as a real-life friend made his work easier.

"I find people often wonder whether it's easier to film intimate or romantic scenes with a long-time friend or someone you've just met. Personally, I believe it's definitely easier with a friend," he shared with Entertainment Tonight recently. "Having that support makes a big difference."

The first part of Bridgerton season 3 will be available on Netflix starting on Thursday, May 16. The rest of the episodes will be released on Thursday, June 13.
