Paul Pogba's counter-analysis on a second sample has shown a positive result for testosterone. This has led to the provisional suspension of the former Manchester United midfielder on September 11th for an anti-doping violation.
Pogba, the French international, tested positive for testosterone during a random drugs test after Juventus' Serie A match against Udinese on August 20. He was a substitute in the game but did not play. Following the affirmation of the positive result through a counter-analysis, Pogba now faces a potential suspension of up to four years.
We News have contacted Pogba's representatives for comment.
Pogba has been suspended by Italy's national anti-doping tribunal after news that he had returned an adverse sample appeared in September.
Upon receiving the initial positive sample, Pogba's representative, Rafaela Pimenta, released a statement to We News stating that they are awaiting the counter analysis results before providing any further information. Pimenta emphasized that Paul Pogba has always been committed to abiding by the rules, making it clear that he had no intention of violating them.
The player, who has been plagued by injuries since returning to Juventus from Manchester United just over a year ago, received yet another setback, adding to the negative narrative. He was unable to participate in France's journey to the World Cup final last year due to a knee injury, and throughout the last season, he only managed to play in six matches in Serie A for Juventus.
Pogba has not yet started a match this season, but he has made two appearances as a substitute. His most recent game was in the 2-0 victory against Empoli.
Furthermore, in France, there is an ongoing police investigation regarding accusations of extortion against Pogba. These allegations involve his older brother, Mathias, who has firmly denied any involvement in any illegal activities.
It is yet another setback for Juventus, as their season has already been tainted by investigations into fraudulent accounting and unauthorized salary payments. Consequently, UEFA has excluded the Turin club from participating in European competitions this season.
