Sheffield Wednesday appoint 34-year-old Danny Rohl as their youngest manager in EFL history Previously an assistant coach at RB Leipzig, Southampton, Bayern Munich, and the German national team, Rohl takes charge of the Championship strugglers after Xisco Munoz's dismissal

Sheffield Wednesday have hired Danny Rohl, a 34-year-old German coach, as their new manager. Rohl becomes the youngest manager in the EFL. The Championship club, which recently earned promotion, terminated the contract of Xisco Munoz last week due to his failure to secure any wins in the 10 league games he oversaw.

Rohl, who previously served as an assistant at RB Leipzig, Southampton, Bayern Munich, and the German national team, has stepped into his inaugural managerial position.

Currently, Sheffield Wednesday finds themselves at the bottom of the Championship table, having accumulated a mere three points from 11 games. U21s manager Neil Thompson assumed control during their recent match, a goalless draw at home against Huddersfield.

Rohl, who is seven months younger than Bradford City caretaker Kevin McDonald, has become the youngest manager in the EFL. He takes on the position as Wednesday's 11th permanent boss in the past 12 years. After facing a career plagued by injury in lower-league playing, the German transitioned into coaching at RB Leipzig. He furthered his career by joining the first-team set-up under Ralph Hasenhuttl and later followed him to Southampton.

Rohl departed in 2019 for Bayern Munich where he worked under Hansi Flick and then Niko Kovac before joining Flick with the German national team.

Flick was fired in September after a crushing 4-1 defeat against Japan, and Rohl was also let go. In the summer, manager Darren Moore departed the club after leading them to promotion to the Championship.

Last month, fans expressed their discontent with owner Dejphon Chansiri by hurling tennis balls onto the pitch during the match against Middlesbrough. In response, Chansiri released a statement stating his decision to withhold further financial support for the club and expressed his disappointment regarding the treatment he and his family received from a portion of the supporters.
