Xbox head Phil Spencer recently shared his thoughts on the potential of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16 being released for Xbox consoles. Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which was originally released on the PlayStation 4 in 2020 and received great success in retelling the beloved 1997 original, has recently been made available for PC through a Steam port. Similarly, Final Fantasy 16, which debuted on the PlayStation 5, is currently exclusive to that console but is expected to receive a PC port in the future according to Square Enix.

With its latest two blockbusters exploring beyond the boundaries of PlayStation, there has been speculation about the eventual arrival of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer was recently asked about this possibility during an interview with IGN at Gamescom 2023. While he didn't provide a definitive answer, he also didn't dismiss the idea. Spencer mentioned that he and fellow Microsoft executive Sarah Bond frequently travel to Tokyo for discussions with publishers, including Square Enix. They have even spoken with Final Fantasy 16 director Naoki Yoshida about the potential release of titles on Xbox.

Spencer's answer lacked further detail, presumably due to Final Fantasy 14's confirmed Xbox release next year. Recently, there was speculation about Final Fantasy 7 Remake potentially coming to Xbox after it was featured in a Brazilian Xbox Game Pass ad for Father's Day. However, this was later revealed to be a mistake by Xbox's marketing team. Despite the error, it briefly sparked excitement among players who hope that future Final Fantasy games will eventually be available on Xbox consoles. While Final Fantasy has a strong association with PlayStation since the release of the original Final Fantasy 7 in 1997, titles like Final Fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy 15 have been released on Xbox in the past. While Phil Spencer hasn't confirmed that the latest two major Final Fantasy games will be available on Xbox, the ongoing discussions between his company and Square Enix are a positive indication for Xbox owners who anticipate playing them on the Series X/S in the future.
