Microsoft is rumored to be adding the first-person puzzle game Maquette to its Xbox Game Pass Platform. The game's Xbox port, which has already been delayed, does not yet have a confirmed release date. In the past, Xbox Game Pass has quietly introduced new games without much publicity.
Maquette is a "recursive puzzle game" where players are transported to a world where everything is both tiny and massive. By manipulating miniature versions of the world, players must solve puzzles. The game was released by Annapurna Interactive and indie developer Graceful Decay on PlayStation and Steam in March 2021. Although the Xbox version was originally scheduled for release last winter, it has yet to materialize and there has been no update on its release until now.
No official announcement has been made regarding the release date of Maquette on Xbox. However, a recent notification on the Xbox Game Pass App hinted at the upcoming port and encouraged users to try Maquette and Plethora Project's Common'hood on Game Pass. While it's possible that this notification was sent by mistake, as of now, only Common'hood is available on Game Pass and there have been no other mentions of Maquette's Xbox port. Nevertheless, if the leaked information is accurate, it strongly suggests that Graceful Decay's unique puzzle game will be available on Game Pass in the near future.
In the world of art, a maquette typically refers to a scaled-down model used as a preliminary version of a larger sculpture. In the case of Graceful Decay's Maquette, the term refers to the manipulatable scale model that players use to impact the full-scale world. This involves moving objects within the model and placing life-sized objects inside it to create giant versions. Furthermore, the world inhabited by the player character exists within a larger version of itself, raising questions about the number of layers within the game.
Regrettably, Maquette has not received the desired reception from Annapurna Interactive and Graceful Decay. With a "Mixed" score of 6/10 on Steam and similarly mediocre ratings on Metacritic, it appears that the game did not fully capitalize on its innovative concept. Additionally, the game's storyline has generated conflicting opinions. However, players with the right disposition may find Maquette enjoyable, and the intriguing concept alone could justify giving it a try. Maquette is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Switch, and is being developed for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
