Sheffield Wednesday are nearing the hiring of Danny Rohl, a German coach, as their new manager, which would make him the youngest person to hold such a position in the EFL. The Championship club, who earned promotion last season, recently dismissed Xisco Munoz after he was unable to secure a victory in any of his ten league matches as manager.
Rohl, aged 34, is about to embark on his first managerial position, following his experience as an assistant at RB Leipzig, Southampton, Bayern Munich, and the German national team.
With only three points from 11 games, Sheffield Wednesday currently finds themselves at the bottom of the Championship. In their last match, U21s boss Neil Thompson assumed control as they played out a goalless draw against Huddersfield at home.
Rohl is set to become the EFL's youngest manager, being seven months junior to Bradford City caretaker Kevin McDonald. The German transitioned into coaching at RB Leipzig after facing a series of injuries during his time as a lower-league player. Subsequently, he progressed to the first-team setup alongside Ralph Hasenhuttl and subsequently joined him at Southampton.
Rohl left in 2019 to join Bayern Munich, where he initially worked under Hansi Flick and later Niko Kovac. He eventually reunited with Flick when he joined the German national team. However, both Flick and Rohl were let go in September after suffering a 4-1 defeat against Japan.
Darren Moore, the club's manager, parted ways with the team in the summer after their promotion to the Championship. In a demonstration last month, fans expressed their dissatisfaction with owner Dejphon Chansiri by hurling tennis balls onto the pitch during the match against Middlesbrough.
