Marvel has announced additional What If...? content for 2024, but it will not be available on Disney Plus. Since its release in 2021, What If...? has become one of Marvel's most highly rated shows, and fans have been eagerly anticipating more content. With nine episodes in its first season, the series explores alternate scenarios within the MCU, imagining how things could have been different if key events had unfolded in another way. For example, Peggy Carter taking the super soldier serum and Ultron prevailing in the Avengers: Age of Ultron battle were among the storylines explored. Despite not receiving as much attention as other MCU shows, What If...? still has a dedicated fanbase eagerly awaiting further content. While a second season is in progress, production appears to be indefinitely delayed.
However, fans won't have to wait indefinitely for fresh What If...? content. Random House Works and Marvel Entertainment have recently unveiled plans to release three novels set in the What If...? universe in 2024. These books are set in their own unique universes within the vast Multiverse and will delve into different origin stories for some of Marvel's most beloved characters. As the first installments of an ongoing series, these novels will introduce readers to a whole new cast of heroes and their thrilling adventures.
The first novel, entitled "What If…Loki Was Worthy? A Loki and Valkyrie Story," by Madeleine Roux, will be released on March 12, 2024. This book explores an alternate universe where Loki wields Mjölnir instead of Thor. Following this, the second novel, written by Seanan McGuire, titled "What If…Wanda Maximoff and Peter Parker Were Siblings? A Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man Story," will be published in July 2024. Finally, in October 2024, Mike Chen's "What If…Marc Spector Was a Host to Venom? A Moon Knight and Venom Story" is set to be released.
Random House has provided a glimpse of the first "What If…?" novel's plot. The story begins with one of Loki's mischievous pranks leading to the death of his brother, Thor. As a result, Loki is banished to Midgard by Odin and forced to live among humans. However, Loki's new peaceful life is disrupted when Valkyrie discovers him. Together, they embark on a mission to locate Jane Foster and fulfill Thor's final wish.
Random House has confirmed that the novels are intended for adult readers, ensuring an exhilarating and unrestricted adventure in each book. Fans can now pre-order the first novel featuring Loki for $28.99 from several online booksellers. The audiobook and eBook versions are also available, priced at approximately $28.99 and $15 respectively.
The release of all three What If...? novels and audiobooks is scheduled throughout 2024, with the first installment hitting the shelves on March 12, 2024.
