Casting rumors for James Gunn's DCU movies have been circulating, including the bizarre rumor of adult film star Johnny Sins playing Lex Luthor.
The online rumor gained momentum, however, Gunn promptly refuted it, deeming it incredulous.
Fans are currently anticipating confirmation from Gunn regarding Gal Gadot's reprisal of her role as Wonder Woman, as he has not touched upon the subject yet.
In James Gunn's DCU, there have been numerous casting rumors swirling around, but none stranger than the one suggesting adult film star Johnny Sins might play the role of Superman's arch-nemesis Lex Luthor.
Prior to the strike, the casting process for the upcoming DCU movies was in full swing. Gunn, being quite active on social media, took it upon himself to address and either confirm or dismiss any rumors related to these films. The main focus has been Gunn's first DCU installment, "Superman: Legacy," which has already confirmed David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. While Gunn has successfully secured the casting of other heroes such as Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, Mr. Terrific, and Metamorpho for "Superman: Legacy," he has yet to find the perfect choice to portray the film's villain.
There is a rumor circulating that Sins will portray Lex Luthor, Superman's archenemy. Sins has gained popularity as a meme due to his versatile roles as a doctor, cop, firefighter, and even an astronaut. The origin of this rumor can be traced back to a parody account named Le Cinèphiles, where people mistakenly took it seriously and sought clarification from Gunn. Gunn, however, refuted the rumor, exclaiming, "Oh my God, you can't possibly believe that."
Interestingly, this is not the first time this rumor has circulated. When it was announced that Lex Luthor would appear in Batman v Superman, there was a similar rumor suggesting Sins for the role, which was quickly dismissed as a joke. Yet, for some reason, this time the rumor has gained more traction, leading people to believe its authenticity.
Fans have noticed that Gunn addressed the recent rumor promptly, yet he has not addressed whether Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Wonder Woman. Gadot herself recently expressed her intention to return to the DCU as Wonder Woman, although another report suggested that no such promise was made to her. As of now, Gunn has neither confirmed nor denied Gadot's return.
While Gunn has faced criticism in the past for his casting choices, this particular rumor of an adult film star playing Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy is entirely unfounded. Fans can be relieved knowing that this rumor holds no truth. However, the question of Gadot's future in the DCU still remains unanswered, and fans eagerly await Gunn's response.
Superman: Legacy is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
