Breaking News: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Servers Shutdown! Find out why!

The multiplayer servers for the iconic game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have been taken offline, causing significant disruptions and frustrations among players

The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer servers have been temporarily shut down due to reports of a dangerous malware spreading within the game. Despite the release of newer Call of Duty games, the original version from 2009 remains popular and continues to attract active players. However, in order to tackle a significant problem, the servers are now offline. This marks a departure from the successful trend of older Call of Duty games thriving alongside their newer counterparts. In fact, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, in its original form, has surpassed its recently rebooted version in terms of popularity. Other titles in the franchise have also maintained functional online servers over the years, often receiving updates and improvements. However, this is not the case for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which has been taken offline due to malicious activities.

The Steam servers for the 2009 shooter, Call of Duty, have been temporarily taken offline as stated in an official announcement from the Call of Duty Updates Twitter account. Although the reason is simply mentioned as "reports of an issue," players and insiders are claiming that a malicious malware string is circulating within the game. This malware, classified as a "worm," has the potential to spread unknowingly among infected players. There is no confirmation regarding when the servers for Modern Warfare 2 will be back online. This incident is not the first instance of bad actors infiltrating modern games. Last month, popular Minecraft mod platforms CurseForge and Bukkit were targeted by malware attacks, affecting well-known mods like "Better Minecraft" and "Sky Villages." Call of Duty has also faced similar malware problems in the past, specifically with Warzone and malware infections associated with in-game cheats.

As players eagerly await the return of the game's servers, teasers of a new installment in the Modern Warfare reboot have already started to surface. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has recently been subject to leaks, including the game's logo which was reportedly revealed earlier this week. These leaks have also hinted at the potential return of beloved features from previous entries, such as reload canceling and the Ninja perk. Despite the current server issues, fans of the original Modern Warfare 2 will undoubtedly flock back to the game once the problems are resolved. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is currently available for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
