West Ham have finalized the acquisition of midfielder Mohammed Kudus from Ajax. Kudus has officially agreed to a five-year deal, including the possibility of extending for an additional 12 months, following the successful completion of his medical examination during the weekend.
The deal is understood to be worth around £38m (€44.5m) including add-ons.
West Ham will pay an initial €41.5m (£35.59m) and €3m (£2.57m) in performance-related add-ons.
A Premier League club, which shall remain unnamed, made a last-minute attempt to secure Kudus' signing on Saturday. However, the player had already made his decision to join the Hammers.
"Ever since I was a child, I've dreamt of playing in a league of this caliber," expressed Kudus, proudly donning the No 14 jersey at West Ham.
I have been anticipating this moment and I am exceedingly delighted to be present. However, this is not the end for me; I aspire to go even further.
My utmost endeavor is to captivate the fans, as I firmly believe that this is the essence of football. I am solely here to give my utmost effort and aid the team. I am genuinely thrilled to have this opportunity. I will wholeheartedly defend the emblem and cannot wait to commence.
David Moyes expressed his excitement about collaborating with Kudus, who impressively netted four goals in six Champions League group-stage matches for Ajax in the previous season. "I'm thrilled that we have successfully acquired Mohammed for West Ham United," Moyes stated.
With his exceptional skills and impressive achievements, it comes as no surprise that this young talent has garnered immense attention from top clubs this summer. Having showcased his brilliance at the highest stage for Ajax in the Champions League and amassing over 150 senior appearances at just 23 years old, he has proven himself to be an extraordinary asset.
The ability to attract a player of his unquestionable caliber to London Stadium demonstrates the strong influence West Ham now possesses. The board and Tim [Steidten, West Ham's technical director] deserve immense acknowledgment for successfully finalizing this deal.
