James Gunn's reboot of the DC Universe has high hopes as it sets out to kick off with "Superman: Legacy," and the film has already secured the talents of several superheroes. This impressive fan art provides a glimpse of what the fully suited cast could potentially look like.
Gunn recently revealed the exciting casting choices for the iconic roles of Superman and Lois Lane, with David Corrensweet taking on the cape as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan stepping into the shoes of Lois Lane. The casting process for these key roles had been extensive, and fans had been eagerly following Gunn's updates on the selection journey. However, fans were taken aback when Gunn made a bombshell announcement, unveiling Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
This fan art from Youssef Mohammed on Instagram showcases the potential appearances of the cast members of Superman: Legacy in their respective roles. Mohammed's portrayal of Mr. Terrific includes a more advanced suit design, along with one of his signature tech-based weapons, the T-Sphere. The concept for Guy Gardner is almost perfect, featuring his iconic leather vest, but it lacks one crucial element. Gunn mentioned his intention to give Fillion a bowl cut to accurately portray the character.
Furthermore, Mohammed's rendition of Hawkgirl presents a fantastic depiction of the winged warrior. Hawkgirl is equipped with her reliable mace and large wings, although she has chosen not to include her usual helmet in this concept. Lastly, we have the two main characters of the films, Superman and Lois. While there are numerous suit options to consider, and Gunn's decision remains unknown to fans, Mohammed has opted for the popular New-52 suit for Corrensweet. Lois Lane is depicted in her reporter attire, poised with her camera. Unfortunately, Mohammed has not yet created concept art for Anthony Carrigan, who is slated to play Metamorpho.
Gunn's castings have stirred controversy among certain fans, who question the abundance of characters in the film and their purpose in setting up future movies. In response, Gunn has clarified that the focal characters are Clark Kent and Lois Lane, with the additional characters serving to enhance Superman's narrative.
Mohammed's ideas, on the whole, are intriguing as he melds elements from the characters' distinct comic book suits, imparting his unique spin on the designs. Fans will have to wait and see the actual appearance of these characters in Superman: Legacy, which is scheduled to commence filming in January but may face potential delays due to ongoing strikes.
Superman: Legacy is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
