Taylor Swift adores a man from London, but she's not interested in being part of a London coronation, especially one that would disrupt her Eras Tour. According to royal expert Omid Scobie's book "Endgame," Swift, 33, declined an invitation to perform at King Charles III's coronation in May. Scobie mentioned that several other musicians also turned down the opportunity, making it difficult for organizers to find artists for the event.
Scobie’s book does not explain why Swift declined the offer, but it is known that she was deeply involved in her Eras Tour at the time Charles, 75, was officially crowned king on May 6. This coincided with Swift’s second night of three concerts in Nashville, Tennessee.
Leading up to Charles’ coronation, there were reports that several other artists, such as Harry Styles, Adele, Robbie Williams, and the Spice Girls, also declined offers to perform for the British royal family. Although these artists never addressed the speculation, Elton John’s representative confirmed that the 76-year-old singer declined the offer due to scheduling conflicts.
Charles technically became king in September 2022 following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, but he was not formally crowned until May. Despite reports about the difficulty of scheduling performers for the event, plenty of renowned artists attended to sing at the coronation concert, including Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, and Take That.
Taylor Swift shared, "I'm thankful I get to go," Perry, 39, told Entertainment Tonight in April. "I met him a few years ago, and he appointed me as one of the ambassadors to his organization, The British Asian Trust, which fights to end child trafficking. I'm also an ambassador for UNICEF, so it really aligns with my values. That's mostly why I'm going, to represent and say, 'Hey, this is me from the USA.' No, but it's really amazing."
Richie, on the other hand, confessed that he was attempting to remain composed about the entire situation. "I'm really making an effort to stay calm," Richie, 74, mentioned to Sky News in May. "I'm so thrilled. I feel like a kid at Christmas time!"
