Blake Lively's Response to Baseball Player Ben Lively Being Mistaken for Her

Discover how Blake Lively responded when baseball pitcher Ben Lively was mistakenly called by her name instead of his during a sports commentary.

Blake Lively had a great response to a sports commentator who mistakenly confused her with New York Mets pitcher Ben Lively.

In an Instagram Story on Tuesday, May 21, the 36-year-old actress shared a video of the mix-up and jokingly said, "Well. Cats outta the bag. I’m a highly professional baseball player on the side." It's important to note that Blake and the 32-year-old pitcher are not related.

Ben shared a screenshot of Blake’s reaction via his own Instagram Story on Tuesday.

“The amount of times this has happened @blakelively,” he wrote.

During the Mets game against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday, May 20, Mets announcer Gary Cohen made a mistake.

Cohen, who is 66 years old, mentioned that Blake Lively made his first appearance of the year for the Reds last year against the Mets and threw three scoreless innings. Now, Lively is facing the Mets for the first time as a member of the Guardians.

Blake recently shared a clip on Instagram from SportsNet New York’s official page. The clip showed edited photos of the actress wearing a Guardians baseball cap. Additionally, Cohen, along with fellow Mets broadcasters Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez, shared the video on their joint Instagram account @garykeithron.

The caption of the video humorously questioned whether it was Ben Lively or someone else making the start against the Mets. It was a slip of the tongue from Gare.

While Blake may not be a professional athlete, she is a big sports fan. She and her husband Ryan Reynolds showed their support for their friend Taylor Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, during a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets in October 2023 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

After that, Blake attended Super Bowl LVIII in February with Taylor Swift, leaving Ryan Reynolds at home. Travis Kelce and the Chiefs emerged victorious against the San Francisco 49ers with a score of 25-22.

Lively shared on Instagram that she left her kids for the first time last week, while posting photos from her trip to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl. She has daughters James (9), Inez (7), Betty (4), and a fourth child born in February 2023 with Reynolds.

Reynolds is involved in soccer as he is a partial owner of Wrexham Association Football Club with Rob McElhenney. The purchase happened after Reynolds messaged McElhenney to praise his work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

During an August 2022 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Reynolds shared a funny anecdote. He remembered telling his friend Blake, "I have bad news and I have really bad news." The bad news was that he had once again messaged someone on social media. The really bad news? He might have accidentally purchased part of a fifth-tier national football league in Wales.

Reynolds humorously mentioned that his wife didn't take the news well. He joked, "Her reaction was not good. We're still working through that one."
