Blake Lively once played a hilarious joke on her former Gossip Girl costar and ex, Penn Badgley. She convinced him that Steven Tyler was his father - and he actually believed it.

During a recent episode of the "Podcrushed" podcast on Thursday, May 23, Badgley, who is now 37 years old, shared the story. He received an email informing him that there was a rumor circulating that Steven Tyler thought he was his son. At first, he didn't take it seriously because it seemed too absurd to be true.

A couple of days later, the publicist contacted Badgley again, mentioning that the story was not disappearing. She expressed concern that Steven seemed to believe it. Badgley found this situation strange and was surprised by Steven's belief. However, he still maintains that he does not think the story is true.

Badgley's manager and publicist contacted him again to share that Tyler, 76, was convinced about his paternity.

Initially, Badgley found it hard to believe. He thought, "How could Steven Tyler think I'm his child? It just doesn't seem possible."

At the suggestion of Lively, 36, Badgley called his mom — whom he said is “so not an actress” nor a “prankster.”

My mom was upset and I didn't understand why. She paused, and that pause made me really pay attention. Then she asked me, "Why do you think we moved out of Maryland?" I was stunned for about 5-7 seconds, which felt like a long time. My whole world felt like it was shifting. I couldn't believe it when she said, "I am Steven Tyler's son."

Badgley joked that after a brief moment of contemplation, he was already thinking about playing music. He mentioned that he had always harbored a desire to play music but didn't want to take advantage of the situation.

However, he soon came to his senses when rational thinking prevailed, especially after seeing Lively's amused reaction. He described how the room burst into applause, indicating a shift in the mood.

"I was really impressed. I was like, 'Wow. You really put in a lot of work, and it paid off. It's not easy for things to work out like that,'" he said.

Badgley and Lively dated from 2007 to 2010 while working together on Gossip Girl as Dan Humphrey and Serena van der Woodsen. Even after they broke up, they remained on good terms.

“They’re professionals,” a source exclusively told We in October 2010. “They’re still good friends and hang out on the set.”
