Bill Hader is openly showing his affection for his girlfriend Ali Wong. On Wong's last night of performing at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 12, Hader, who is 45 years old, surprised her by joining her on stage after her comedy set.
"Guess who my boyfriend is? Want to meet him?" Wong, 42, asked the audience eagerly. Shortly after, Hader appeared with a red rose and planted a kiss on her cheek. On stage, the Barry star praised Wong for effortlessly delivering her set despite all the hard work she put into it.
As he prepared to leave the stage, Hader declared, "Ali Wong is officially taken!"
During her performance that night, Wong shared with the audience the story of how her relationship with Hader began after her divorce from Justin Hakuta. Hakuta, who is 41 years old, and Wong ended their eight-year marriage in April 2022 and have two daughters. Hader, on the other hand, has three children with his ex-wife Maggie Carey.
Wong humorously expressed that she never expected to have so much fun at this stage of her life. She joked about finding divorce to be enjoyable and even mentioned her desire to get married again just so she could experience another divorce. Wong also mentioned that after news of her split from Hakuta spread, she had never been pursued by so many men before.
While she was excited to start dating again, she remembered receiving a phone call from a man she had met at a dinner party. He had obtained her number from a mutual friend. Although she didn't disclose his identity, many fans speculated that she was talking about Hader in connection to their current relationship.
During her performance, Wong shared, "He called and said, ‘I heard about your divorce. I've had a crush on you for a long time. I even told my best friend years ago that you were my dream girl. I know it sounds crazy, but I want you to be my girlfriend.’"
Even though Wong was flattered, she playfully mentioned that she didn't initially pursue a relationship with him because she wanted to make the most of her time on dating apps.
After Wong declined his advances, the guy, whose name remains unknown, was persistent. Wong recounted how she embarked on a European vacation shortly after rejecting him, only to discover flowers waiting for her at every destination she visited. When she shared this story with her friends, the girls found it romantic, while the guys thought it was more reminiscent of "psychopath behavior."
She joked that when a man does something kind or romantic, it must mean he has an undiagnosed mental illness.
Hader and Wong were first rumored to be dating in 2022, and their relationship has continued to progress and become more serious.
In January, a source mentioned to We that the couple has a solid foundation and marriage is definitely something they are considering. Another insider also shared that their friends believe they are in it for the long haul, as they are comfortable and deeply in love with each other.
