Bethenny Frankel's "ReWives" podcast is coming to an end. The Real Housewives of New York City alum, 54, made the announcement on the Wednesday, February 28 episode of her iHeartRadio podcast, "Just B with Bethenny Frankel." She shared, "I'm canceling myself. I'm canceling 'ReWives'."
Frankel shared in the episode titled “It’s Me… I’m the Problem, It’s Me” that she decided to step away because reality TV was not something she had a natural interest in. She expressed her feelings about the negative atmosphere surrounding reality TV, describing it as filled with dirt, garbage, and toxicity. Frankel emphasized that the industry had become increasingly dirty and toxic, leading her to distance herself from it. She stated that she no longer wished to be associated with reality TV or discuss it on her platform, unless the conversation focused on topics like motherhood or family. Frankel concluded by saying that she preferred not to engage in negative discussions and did not want to be linked to the toxic environment of reality TV.
Frankel expressed her desire to be involved in projects that her 13-year-old daughter, Bryn, would look up to and admire. She emphasized the importance of working on shows and initiatives that serve as positive role models for her daughter and other women.
Frankel shared with listeners that her initial motivation for doing the show 'ReWives' was because she believed it was a smart business move. She explained that her fiancé, Paul Bernon, suggested that someone should create a show like this and asked if people would be interested in hearing from the "Tom Brady of Housewives." As a businesswoman, she saw the potential in the idea and decided to have engaging conversations about various topics like infidelity, marriage, children, arguments, and different cities using Housewives episodes as a platform.
However, as time passed, she noticed a shift in her perspective.
"I used to enjoy engaging with guests and discussing various topics, not just focusing on their personal lives during interviews. However, as time went on, my outlook began to change," she shared. "Now that I am older and wiser, a mother, and in my 50s, my priorities have shifted. I now place more value on integrity and health rather than just achieving success."
Frankel, an original member of the Housewives and a cast member on RHONY since its debut in 2008, was part of the show's first three seasons. She later made a comeback in season 7, but decided to leave for good after season 11 in 2019.
Reflecting on her time on the show, Frankel shared with listeners that she joined the Housewives over 15 years ago. At the time, she was struggling financially and saw it as an exciting opportunity.
She mentioned that the reality series has changed over time and has become "toxic" with a negative reputation, making her feel uncomfortable about doing the podcast.
Before concluding the episode, Frankel revealed that although 'ReWives' was ending, she would be launching a new podcast with iHeartRadio soon.
“They said ‘Amazing! Let’s do one of the other shows you’ve wanted to do,” she shared, “so I really am grateful for iHeart for this platform.”
