Baldur's Gate 3's release on Xbox is nearly here, much to the anticipation of fans. Developer Larian Studios has confirmed that the game is set to launch in December.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Larian Studios revealed the release window and promised to announce the exact date at The Game Awards on December 7th. Larian CEO Swen Vincke expressed the studio's determination to release the game on Xbox before winter arrives.
Baldur's Gate 3 had its full release on PC and PlayStation 5 earlier this year, following years of early access. However, it didn't initially launch on Xbox. This was because Larian Studios, the game's developer, faced challenges with the game's split-screen co-op feature on Xbox Series S consoles, which they considered crucial. In order to bring this highly praised RPG to Xbox, Larian reached a compromise after meeting with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. As a result, the split-screen co-op was dropped for Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox Series S consoles—at least during the game's launch period. Larian has expressed the possibility of adding split-screen co-op to the Series S version in the future.
The Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 will include all the updates and enhancements that have been implemented in the PC and PS5 versions so far. These updates involve performance enhancements, bug fixes, the ability to customize the appearance of player characters and hirelings, as well as expanded story moments for specific companions. Both Xbox Series X|S versions will support cross-save functionality between Xbox and PC via Steam. Furthermore, the Xbox Series X version will offer support for split-screen co-op.
Baldur's Gate 3 has been a resounding success for Larian and its talented voice actors. Neil Newborn, the voice of Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3, recently received the prestigious Best Supporting Performer award at the 2023 Golden Joystick Awards. In a recent interview, Newborn revealed that his career was on the verge of ending before finding redemption through voice-over work in games.
Larian's RPG has garnered impressive recognition, with nominations in eight categories at The Game Awards 2023. These categories include Best RPG, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Game of the Year. Our website's review of Baldur's Gate 3 commends Larian's RPG for its captivating characters, engaging cooperative gameplay, and most notably, the game's unparalleled level of freedom. This unprecedented freedom allows players to shape their own destinies like never before seen in any other game.
