Autopsy Awaited in Tragic Passing of Actor Matthew Perry

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office has received the body of beloved 'Friends' actor Matthew Perry for autopsy, as investigations into his untimely death continue Stay tuned for further updates

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office now has the body of Matthew Perry, star of "Friends", and an autopsy is awaiting, as per online records from the agency. CNN has been informed by a law enforcement source that there is no suspicion of foul play, but the incident is still being investigated by the Robbery-Homicide Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Brian Humphrey informed CNN that a distress call was received on Saturday at 4:07 p.m. requesting assistance for a water rescue emergency. LAPD promptly arrived at 4:10 p.m. and swiftly classified the call as a death investigation.

According to sources in law enforcement mentioned by the Los Angeles Times, Perry, who was 54 years old, was discovered unresponsive in his hot tub.

The coroner's online form does not contain any information regarding the cause of death yet. It usually takes several weeks to obtain complete autopsy and toxicology reports.

John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Morrison, Perry's parents, along with his step-father, Keith Morrison from "Dateline," were spotted arriving at the actor's residence on Saturday night during the police's presence.

Perry was candid about his struggles.

In his memoir titled "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir," which was published in November 2022, he openly discusses his journey of recovery from addiction and his unwavering commitment to assisting others. During an appearance on the "Q With Tom Power" podcast, he expressed that the most remarkable aspect of himself is his ability to confidently respond with a resounding "yes" when approached by someone seeking help to overcome their drinking problem, and then wholeheartedly follow through on that promise.

Perry expressed his desire to be remembered as someone who lived a fulfilling life, loved profoundly, and was passionate about seeking knowledge. His utmost priority was to assist others, stating, "That is my ultimate aspiration."

Perry, who was struggling with addiction at the peak of his career on "Friends," revealed in the interview that he was unable to watch the show. Alongside Perry, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc co-starred on "Friends," which aired from 1994 to 2004.

The actors have yet to comment on Perrys death.
