Aubrey O’Day has responded to the troubling video of Sean “Diddy” Combs attacking his former girlfriend Cassie.
In a message shared on Friday, May 17, O’Day, 40, commented on the released 2016 surveillance footage by CNN. The video shows Diddy, 54, seemingly pushing, pulling, and kicking Cassie, 37, during an incident at the now-shut InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.
The singer of "Show Stopper" also warned that the footage may be disturbing for abuse survivors or those easily triggered. She ended her message by sending prayers to Diddy's victims, mentioning Cassie and Kim Porter, the rapper's late ex who passed away in 2018.
O'Day has a history with Diddy that goes back to the early 2000s when she auditioned for his MTV show Making the Band 3. She, along with Dawn Richards, Shannon Bee, D. Wood, and Aundrea Fimbres, formed the girl group Danity Kane. In 2006, Diddy removed O'Day from the group, stating at the time that there was no animosity between them.
O’Day, however, later claimed on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2022 that she was fired because she didn’t meet certain expectations, not in terms of talent but in other ways. (Diddy did not respond to her allegations.)
Earlier this year, O’Day said that Diddy attempted to silence her by offering her publishing rights on his label, Bad Boy Records. She believed Diddy’s “motivation” was to keep people quiet.
Since O’Day left the group, she has been speaking out against Diddy’s alleged abuse, especially concerning Cassie, who dated Diddy on and off from 2007 to 2018. In November 2023, Cassie filed a lawsuit against the rapper, accusing him of rape and sustained physical abuse over nearly a decade.
O’Day stood by Cassie and showed her support for coming forward. She shared on her Instagram Story, “Been trynna tell y’all for years. Prayers up for this queen @cassie. Only day ya’ll are gonna put some respect on my name when I tell you things.”
Diddy denied all the claims made against him. His lawyer, Ben Brafman, stated, "Mr. Combs vehemently denied these offensive and outrageous allegations." Brafman explained that Diddy had been dealing with demands from Ms. Ventura for $30 million over the past six months. She threatened to write a damaging book about their relationship if he did not comply, which he refused, calling it blatant blackmail. Despite withdrawing her initial threat, Ms. Ventura has now filed a lawsuit filled with baseless and outrageous lies in an attempt to tarnish Diddy's reputation and secure a financial gain.
Just one day after Cassie filed the lawsuit, the exes announced that they had reached an agreement. Cassie stated, "I have decided to resolve this matter amicably on terms that I have some level of control over." She expressed gratitude towards her family, fans, and lawyers for their unwavering support, as conveyed through her attorney Douglas Wigdor.
Diddy also released a statement shortly after. He mentioned, "We have decided to resolve this matter amicably." Diddy extended his well wishes to Cassie and her family, signing off the note with his "Love" nickname.
O'Day was one of the first to comment on the settlement, expressing her views on Instagram. She stated, "Money is considered more important than being held accountable. This just shows how the system continues to function as it always has."
In response to the recently surfaced footage of Diddy and Cassie, Cassie's lawyer Wigdor issued a statement. He described the video as "heart-wrenching" and emphasized that it further highlights Mr. Combs' troubling and predatory behavior. Wigdor praised Ms. Ventura for her bravery in coming forward to shed light on the situation.
Diddy has not yet addressed the video footage. Us has reached out for comment.
