Arsenal has successfully finalized a £65m agreement to acquire Kai Havertz from Chelsea, securing him on an undisclosed long-term contract. Havertz, a skilled German forward, marks Arsenal's initial signing for the summer window. Additionally, the Gunners have their sights set on securing deals for Declan Rice, a midfielder from West Ham, following their approved £105m offer on Wednesday, as well as Jurrien Timber, a defender from Ajax.
Havertz has completed a long-term deal with the Emirates, marking the conclusion of his three-year tenure at Chelsea.
The 24-year-old cemented his legacy within the Blues by netting the winning goal that secured their second Champions League title in 2021.
Chelsea acquired Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020 for a fee of £75m. However, following a lackluster performance during the previous season at Stamford Bridge, the club aimed to recover a significant portion of their expenditure. The Blues were content with the agreement, considering Havertz's expressed desire to depart the team and the fact that he still had two years left on his contract.
Havertz often played as a forward at Stamford Bridge, but Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, in his announcement of Havertz joining the club, hinted that the German international would be positioned in midfield at Emirates Stadium.
"Kai possesses exceptional quality as a player," Arteta stated. "He displays great versatility and intelligence on the field. His addition will greatly enhance our midfield strength and diversify our playing style."
We extend our warmest welcome to Kai and his family as they join Arsenal Football Club. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with him as we prepare for the upcoming pre-season training.
Chelsea acknowledged their Champions League victor in a statement, honoring his significant contribution to the club's legacy. They acknowledged that he will forever hold a place in their history.
