Ariana Grande's new studio album, Eternal Sunshine, is where she is opening up and sharing her truth.
According to a source in the latest issue of We, Ariana believes that the songs in the album will give her fans a deeper understanding of her perspective. It's her way of telling her side of the story about Dalton Gomez and Ethan Slater.
In July 2023, news broke that Grande, aged 30, had separated from her then-husband Gomez, aged 28, after two years of marriage. Later in the same month, it was confirmed by Us magazine that Grande had started dating Slater, aged 31. They met on the set of the two-part Wicked movie musical. In the movie, Grande will star as Galinda/Glinda the Good Witch, while Slater plays Boq, a Munchkin who has an unrequited crush on the bewitching character.
As Grande and Slater's relationship blossomed, rumors began to circulate about the timing of their relationship in relation to Grande's divorce. Both Grande and Slater have denied any allegations of cheating on their former partners. Slater filed for divorce from his estranged wife Lilly Jay in July 2023.
Ariana Grande hinted at the drama surrounding her first single from Eternal Sunshine, titled “Yes And?”. During an appearance on the “Zach Sang Show” in February, Grande mentioned feeling frustrated and upset when people misunderstand her loved ones and herself. She expressed nervousness about the album, as some parts are based on real experiences while others are part of a concept. Grande found it scary to let people interpret the album, but it was too late as the vinyls had already been printed.
A second source tells Us that Eternal Sunshine is a “concept album.”
Ariana Grande Will Share Her Side of the Story on Eternal Sunshine LP
Ariana Grande is known for playing with different characters in her music. Some of the lyrics are inspired by her personal life, while others are just her having fun and entertaining her fans, according to an industry source.
Eternal Sunshine is Grande's most emotionally charged album yet, partly inspired by the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
During an interview on the “Zach Sang Show” last month, Grande explained, “It's a mix of being vague and specific at the same time. It captures everything and nothing simultaneously.” She shared that when she was creating Eternal Sunshine, she had no plans for it to be heard by the world. It was a spontaneous process where she just let her thoughts flow. However, she later realized that people might interpret the songs differently, so she carefully reviewed the lyrics to ensure they conveyed her true intentions.
Grande and Gomez got divorced in September 2023 and their split was finalized a month later. Slater's divorce is still in progress, and he has a son, 12 months old, with Jay, who is 30 years old.
Now that Grande's divorce from Gomez is official, she has moved in with Slater in New York City.
