Animal Crossing Fan Art Recreates Famous Nighthawks Painting

A Reddit user has created a stunning fan art piece that combines Animal Crossing: New Horizons characters with the iconic Nighthawks painting by Edward Hopper. This unique interpretation captures the essence of the game's setting and characters, offering a fresh perspective on a renowned work of art. The fan art has garnered attention for its creativity and attention to detail, sparking discussions about the intersection of gaming and art.

The Artistic Fusion of Animal Crossing and Nighthawks

Reddit user Bluepotionart recently shared fan art that combines Animal Crossing characters with the famous Nighthawks painting. In the original art, three patrons sit at a bar in a location called Phillies, which has lights that illuminate the street outside. Because these unnamed people seemingly ordered coffee, the Reddit user identified a link to The Roost. Like in the game, Brewster is behind the counter at The Roost, which has received a redesign to match Nighthawks cafe. Instead of serving three patrons, there are only two. The Animal Crossing protagonist is asleep at the counter, while the frog Villager Lily observes them with bloodshot eyes.

With Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Roost being the only place to get coffee on the island, the fan art boasts that Brewster's drink is number one. Bluepotionart's fan art successfully replicates the light from the cafe illuminating the surrounding street, but the buildings outside differ significantly from those in the game. Brewster is also missing his back room which includes items like coffee cups and gyroids. While many pieces of famous art are in the game, Edward Hoppers' Nighthawks isn't among them. Based on the success of the latest game, a future installment may include Nighthawks as a potential Museum display.

The Intricacies of Animal Crossing's Museum Collection

Because of Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Museum collection, there are many paintings that players can unlock. These paintings can be found on Jolly Redd's boat to the north, or at his stall on Harv's Island. Sometimes the art is fake, requiring players to look closely at each piece before purchasing it. Once the real art has been identified, it can be given to the Museum where it will be on display with a small tidbit about it.

The Impact and Reception of the Fan Art

While Animal Crossing: New Horizons Villagers like Lily can be spotted at The Roost, the painting leaves out NPCs like Wilbur and Blathers. Important NPCs can often be seen sitting at The Roost's counter or stopping in for a visit before returning to their duties. Though Bluepotionart has received several uplifting comments on their fan art, it doesn't appear that they're selling prints of it.
