Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara Jolie-Pitt appeared to have stopped using her father’s last name before her younger sister Shiloh Jolie-Pitt made a legal name change.
During her induction into the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority in November 2023, 19-year-old Zahara did not include her dad’s last name when introducing herself.
"My name is Zahara Marley Jolie," she said in a recently shared video. "I come from the Golden State, the city of angels, Los Angeles, California. I am proud to be number seven in this line."
In the clip, Zahara was seen with her sorority sisters introducing themselves as the newest members of the Mu Pi chapter at Spelman College in Atlanta. The sorority boasts famous alumni like Vice President Kamala Harris, Brandy, Wanda Sykes, and Yvette Nicole Brown. It is the first intercollegiate, historical African-American sorority in the United States.
After Angelina and Brad's other child Shiloh turned 18, she decided to take legal steps to drop her 60-year-old father's last name. Shiloh filed paperwork to change her name on May 27, which was also her milestone birthday as a legal adult. She requested to drop her father's surname so she could go by Shiloh Jolie. The request is currently pending approval.
We learned earlier that Shiloh and Zahara’s younger sister Vivienne, who is 15 years old, has also unofficially stopped using Brad's last name. Vivienne, who has a twin brother named Knox, worked as a production assistant on the Broadway play The Outsiders, which is being produced by Angelina. In the show’s Playbill, she was credited as Vivienne Jolie.

“She’s been a really tough assistant,” Angelina told People in April. “She takes it very, very seriously.”
There is speculation that Angelina and Brad’s children may have removed Pitt from their last name due to their parents' ongoing and bitter divorce.
The actors split in September 2016 after more than a decade together. Despite being legally single, Brad and Angelina (who also have a 22-year-old son named Maddox) have not reached an agreement on their divorce, child custody, and ownership of their French winery, Chateau Miraval.
According to a source who spoke exclusively to We in March, there may finally be a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the ongoing divorce proceedings. The insider revealed that after a grueling negotiation process, the necessary financial documents were finally filed in the last few weeks. This step signifies a sense of relief for Brad and a clear end to their relationship.
In terms of Brad's relationship with his children, the source mentioned that he hopes for a stronger bond with them and is willing to put in the effort to improve it.

The decision by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's children to remove their father's last name highlights the complexity of family dynamics post-divorce. While speculation suggests that this move may be related to the ongoing bitter divorce proceedings between their parents, it is important to respect the privacy of the family and the children's individual choices. It is evident that the children are navigating their own identities and relationships with their parents, and their decisions should be supported and respected.
Furthermore, it is encouraging to hear that some progress has been made in the divorce proceedings, offering hope for a resolution. Brad Pitt's expressed desire for a stronger bond with his children is a testament to the importance of maintaining family connections despite the challenges of divorce.
