The following day, he shared that during the match, he had experienced a full rupture of his anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and a nearly full thickness rupture of his calcaneofibular ligament (CFL).
Upon returning home, he plans to consult with an ankle specialist to determine the next course of action. In a post on Instagram, the former world No. 1 expressed his disappointment, stating, "This is a tough one to take. I'll be back with one hip and no ankle ligaments when the time is right."
In the third set against Macháč, Murray, a two-time Miami Open singles champion, showed great determination by coming back from being down 2-5. During the match, he unfortunately injured his left ankle after winning a crucial game to tie the match at 5-5.
Despite being in visible pain, Murray received quick help from a physiotherapist on the court. He bravely continued to play, saving a match point and pushing the game to a tie-break before eventually losing after a tough battle that lasted close to three-and-a-half hours.

After the match, the three-time grand slam winner reflected on the possibility that he had played his last match at the tournament.
"I've spent a big part of my tennis career here and I wish it could have lasted a bit longer," he expressed. "This tournament holds a special place in my heart, so saying goodbye to the court today felt more emotional compared to other events."
Murray has faced tough injuries over the past few years, undergoing two hip surgeries in 2019.
He has been dealing with a metal hip and has been finding it challenging to perform at his best for some time now.
Following a loss in the first round to Argentina's Tomás Martín Etcheverry at the Australian Open in January, Murray acknowledged that this might be his last season on the tour.
“I have spoken to my team about it. I’ve spoken to my family about it multiple times. It’s not like it hasn’t been something that’s been on my mind,” he said at the time.
