Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, along with other legal experts, recently provided advice to the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor regarding the possible issuance of arrest warrants for the top leaders of Israel and Hamas.
The ICC prosecutor, Karim Khan, organized a panel to examine the evidence and legal reasoning supporting his request for warrants against three Hamas leaders and two Israeli politicians, which includes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
A detailed legal report was released on Monday, stating that the panel had found "reasonable grounds to believe" that the individuals mentioned in the arrest warrants have committed war crimes or crimes against humanity.
Clooney, known for representing victims of mass atrocities, received online criticism before her announcement for not addressing Israel's siege on Gaza. In a statement posted on her Clooney Foundation for Justice website on Monday, she clarified her involvement in advising Khan.
"Over four months ago, I was approached by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to help assess evidence of possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in Israel and Gaza," the statement mentioned. "I accepted the invitation and became part of a team of global legal experts assigned to review this important matter."

Clooney mentioned that there were also grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have committed war crimes and crimes against humanity, such as using starvation as a method of warfare, murder, persecution, and extermination.
