Rich Paul revealed that his girlfriend, Adele, was deeply moved by the rough childhood stories he shares in his new memoir.
"It was a highly emotional experience," disclosed Paul, 41, to People regarding the singer's heartfelt response to the book during an interview published on Sunday, October 8. "I believe a significant portion of it resonated deeply with her, so yes, it was a challenging read [for her]."
Within Lucky Me: A Memoir of Changing the Odds, which will be available in bookstores on Tuesday, October 10, Paul candidly shares his journey of resorting to gambling to provide for his mother, who battled addiction, while growing up in Cleveland, Ohio. He maintained a close bond with his father despite his father having another family, as they worked together at a local corner shop.
Paul shared with the outlet that he had a remarkable role model who exemplified what it meant to be a man and how one should conduct themselves. This person served as Paul's prime example of hard work and unwavering determination. Observing his father navigate the challenges of being an air traffic controller in a community facing adversity akin to both war and tornadoes, yet also enjoying moments of joy and tranquility, Paul greatly admired his father as his hero.
However, Paul's life took a different turn when he formed a bond with a young LeBron James, which ultimately led to him becoming LeBron's loyal agent throughout his NBA career.
Paul was not the only one with a troubled relationship with one of their parents. Adele, aged 35, also had a difficult upbringing due to her father, Mark Evans, abandoning her and her mother, Penny Adkins, when she was young. However, after achieving success in the music industry, Adele made the decision to cut ties with him. Their relationship took a different turn in 2013 when Evans, who sadly passed away at the age of 57 in May 2021, reached out to Adele for forgiveness while battling bowel cancer. He admitted that their falling out was a misunderstanding and they were able to reconcile, though further comments were not provided.
Adele mentioned in October 2021 that she and Evans found peace before his death. She expressed that when he passed, she experienced a physical reaction and felt a sense of relief from fear. Adele also praised her mother for being incredible during the final stages of her father's life, providing support and assistance.
During that same month, Adele disclosed to British Vogue that she had the opportunity to play her 2021 album, 30, for Evans before he passed away. She shared that she had found the peace to forgive him and expressed gratitude for his readiness to let go, acknowledging that he had endured his condition for a considerable amount of time. She conveyed her appreciation by saying, "So thank you."
Following her father's passing, Adele sparked speculation about her relationship with Paul when they were seen together at a July 2021 NBA Finals game. The rumors gained traction when Adele was seen wearing a diamond ring at the 2022 Brit Awards, leading to engagement speculations. When questioned about it in February 2022, Adele cryptically responded, "If I were engaged, would I reveal it?" during an interview with Graham Norton.
Adding to the speculation, last month Adele raised eyebrows during her Las Vegas residency performances when she referred to Paul as her "husband" and herself as his "wife." However, according to an exclusive source, they are not officially married but they have been using the terms husband and wife for a while now.
The insider added: “Marriage is really just a ceremony at this point. They [already] live and act as husband and wife.”
