Alan Ritchson, who portrays the heroic Jack Reacher, proved that his skills are not just for the screen when he recently helped stop and bring a real-life crime to justice. The popular book character, created by Lee Child, has been brought to life by Ritchson in both Season 1 and Season 2 of the series, earning praise from fans for his portrayal of Reacher's no-nonsense policy and his inherent need to help those in need.
Ritchson's on-screen character may be different from his real-life carefree and comedic persona, but they both share a commitment to justice. In the first episode of Reacher Season 2, fans saw the character intervene in a carjacking and kidnapping of a mother and her young son. What would happen if Ritchson found himself in a similar situation in real life?
A typical date turned pursuit of a criminal
Alan Ritchson revealed that he was meant to play Jack Reacher for a reason as the actor once chased after a criminal who broke into a car and stole someone’s belongings.
During an interview with Etalk, the actor recounted a time when he fully embodied his on-screen character in real life. Ritchson and his wife were dressed up for a night out in Montreal, Canada when they came across a car break-in. "She realized it before I did, because he was just rummaging through the car with glass everywhere, and then he emerged with bags," the actor explained. "She said, 'I think he's breaking into that car.' And I was like, 'You know what, I think you're right.'"
Despite his wife's warning, Ritchson went into instant Reacher mode and felt compelled to pursue justice. He recounted chasing a man for four blocks, ultimately subduing him, but acknowledged that his heroic actions put a damper on his date with his wife. Nevertheless, they managed to reach their destination in the end.
Ritchson was clearly the ideal choice for the role of Jack Reacher. His impressive combat skills and powerful punches in Reacher Season 2 made it evident that he was more than ready to tackle the role of a car thief.
