Warning: This article contains spoilers for Big Mouth season 7!
Summary
Big Mouth
season 7 introduced new characters and celebrity cameos, but some previously prominent characters were noticeably absent.
Characters such as Montel, Rodney, Rochelle, and Walter played significant roles in earlier seasons but were noticeably absent or not even acknowledged in season 7.
The surprising absence of beloved characters like Bernie Sanders, Devin LeSeven, Ladybug, and Samira is particularly striking, especially when considering their previous roles and the potential storylines they could have had in the show's final season.
The hit Netflix-streaming animation show Big Mouth, which debuted in 2017, has showcased a range of quirky and fascinating characters. However, not all of them made a return in season 7, which aired in October 2023. Season 7 served as the second-to-last installment before the show's ultimate eighth season. Big Mouth's extensive ensemble of voice actors brings to life the stories of the students at Bridgeton Middle School as they navigate the challenges of puberty, accompanied by recurring characters who accompany them on their youthful misadventures.
As Big Mouth approaches its final season, season 8, season 7 introduced a fresh batch of characters as the cast moved on to high school. Along with these new characters came some notable celebrity cameos, including Stephanie Beatriz, Megan Thee Stallion, and Padma Lakshmi. However, it was surprising that certain characters who had played significant roles in previous seasons did not make a comeback in season 7.
10. Montel LaBeverley
Last Appearance: Big Mouth Season 6, Episode 10, "F**ked Up Friday"
Montel (played by Cole Escola) made his debut in the sixth episode of season 6 titled "Rice Purity Test". He is depicted as the offspring of Maury (played by Nick Kroll) and Connie (played by Maya Rudolph). Montel's conception took place during the events of the first season of Human Resources, and following his birth in the show Big Mouth, he joined his parents in their interactions with characters such as Andrew (portrayed by John Mulaney) and Jessi (portrayed by Jessi Klein). Although Montel played a significant role in the sixth season of Big Mouth, he did not make an appearance in the seventh season, nor was he mentioned by his parents.
9. Rodney
The absence of any mention of Montel, the child of Maury and Connie, in the final seasons of Big Mouth is peculiar, especially considering the significant roles that Maury and Connie played in the show. Although it was announced that Human Resources had been canceled after season 2 and the characters' storylines would be wrapped up in Big Mouth, the writers failed to acknowledge Montel by name.
Last Appearance: Big Mouth Season 6, Episode 7, "Dadda Dia!"
Rodney (played by Jon Daly) made his debut in the episode "The Shane Lizard Rises" in season 5 of Big Mouth, where he served as Lola Skumpy's (voiced by Kroll) mother's parole officer. Throughout the series, Rodney became a recurring joke, with Lola underestimating the audience's interest in him. Despite Lola's initial standoffishness, Rodney assumes a parental role in her life, being the only adult figure who shows concern for her well-being.
In season 6 of Big Mouth, Lola embarks on a paternity journey reminiscent of Mamma Mia. However, upon realizing that none of the men she encounters are her father, Lola realizes how much she has taken Rodney for granted. Given the limited presence of responsible adults in Lola's life, it would have been logical to see more of Rodney. Surprisingly, in season 7, Lola continues to reference her mother's absence, making Rodney's absence from the screen seem peculiar.
