Zelda Williams, daughter of Robin Williams, expressed her distress at the use of artificial intelligence to recreate her late father. In a recent Instagram post, she shared her thoughts on AI, highlighting its significance as a key point of contention in the SAG-AFTRA strike against Hollywood studios.
"I must disclose that I am not a neutral observer in SAG's battle against AI," stated Williams. "For an extensive period, I have personally witnessed numerous individuals striving to train these models to generate or duplicate actors who are unable to provide consent, just like my own father. This is not a hypothetical scenario; it is an incredibly tangible and distressing reality."
I have already come across instances of AI being utilized to manipulate someone's voice to say whatever the person desires. Although I personally find this disconcerting, the implications extend far beyond just my own sentiments. It is important to provide living actors with the opportunity to bring characters to life through their choices, to lend their voices to animated works, and to invest their HUMAN effort and time into the art of performance.
In conclusion, she remarked, "These reproductions, at best, serve as feeble imitations of celebrated individuals, but at their worst, they represent a dreadful Frankenstein-like creation, assembled from the most unfavorable aspects of this industry, rather than embodying its true purpose."
Over the weekend Tom Hanks weighed in on an AI version of himself promoting a dental plan, warning supporters that it wasnt really him.
