In the podcast episode of "Call Her Daddy" on Wednesday, July 12, Zayn Malik candidly discusses his journey towards discovering his own fashion identity. The 30-year-old singer reveals that growing up, he often felt compelled to conform to a specific style of clothing. He shares how not adhering to this dress code would often lead to others questioning and criticizing him.
When asked if his cultural background influenced his mindset, Malik replied, "Not really." He further explained, "In every aspect of life, including fashion choices and personal style, any deviation from the norm was always met with questioning." Malik continued by expressing his current freedom to showcase his unique identity through bold fashion choices such as edgy leather jackets, vibrant neon colors, chain necklaces, and chunky rings.
In an interview with GQ India in April 2021, Malik discussed his expression through style. He emphasized that while fashion is a significant part of how he expresses himself, it is not the only method he employs. Malik further revealed that his inclination towards multiple tattoos, including those on his arms, neck, face, and head, stems from his desire to stand out.
In addition to his love for tattoos and fashionable attire, Malik has also challenged conventional hairstyles. In April 2015, he went for a bold statement by shaving his head and dyeing it neon green. That summer, he embraced an icy blue mane, but he eventually switched it up to platinum blonde by December 2015.
In February 2016, he experimented with pastel pink hair before attending the Met Gala with his ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid, where they walked the red carpet together. After maintaining his natural hair for almost two years, he switched up his look once again in June 2018, opting for teal blue locks.
More recently, Malik took to Instagram to reveal that he will be releasing a new song titled "Love Like This" on Friday, July 21. In the music promo, he can be seen wearing a red and black leather jacket adorned with chains hanging from the sleeves. He paired the jacket with a simple black T-shirt, matching jeans, leather boots, silver hoop earrings, and colorful rings. His hair was styled in a sleek buzz cut. The video wraps up with him getting on a motorcycle and driving away.
