Expect the same formulaic approach in Alan Wake 2, where players will have a clear idea of what to anticipate in each chapter. Saga will continue to utilize her Case Board and profiling techniques, while Alan must piece together story threads and scenes to delve deeper into the Dark Place.
Initiation 8: Zane's Film maintains this formula, although it is not as lengthy or complex as Initiation 2: Casey. Players will need to pause and strategize on how to effectively employ each story thread in order to advance. Here's a glimpse of what players can anticipate at the start of Initiation 8: Zane's Film.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.
Find Thomas Zane
The chapter commences with a riveting video capturing Alan's descent into madness as he contemplates the harrowing predicament he finds himself trapped in. Ascend the stairs to reunite with the bustling streets. Hasten towards the Oceanview Hotel and step into its inviting lobby. Proceed to the right, aiming for the elevator that will transport you to Room 665, where Zane awaits. Step into the room and utilize the projector, just as you did in Initiation 5: Room 665.
Explore the Cinema
Depart the hotel via the elevator following an eerie live-action cutscene. As you step outside, observe the distant glow of the movie theater's lights towards the southeast. Proceed in that direction, but remain vigilant for lurking Shadows and Taken. Taking a brief pause at the nearest save point is advisable, given the scarce, if not nonexistent, supply of provisions. For optimal gameplay, it is recommended to sprint as if constantly pursued by the relentless Mr. Scratch.
To access the Cinema, players are required to proceed to the ticket booth and insert their ticket. To commence, ascend the stairs located on the left side of the lobby. Activate an Echo by looking downwards, which introduces a fresh storyline for players to delve into. However, it is advisable to explore the lobby before embarking on this new journey. Inside the room behind the concession stand, there is a map along with a selection of supplies.
Open the storyboard and add the Cult of the Word story thread to the scene where
is located. In that scene, there is an area that is blocked off by a barricade. Remove the story thread and proceed to enter the blocked area. Then, insert the Cult of the Word story thread back into the scene in order to help bypass the barricade. Look for another Echo in that area that provides a new story thread. Include this new story thread in the scene to reveal the way to the Theater Hall, which is a new scene.
Find a Way into the Projection Booth
Bring the Cult of the Word story thread to the Theater Hall and place it on the scene. Afterward, return to the previous room where an Echo awaits. This Echo will introduce a new story thread. Incorporate this new thread into the scene and then head back towards the screen, but be cautious of the Shadows that have risen from their seats. Approach the screen and utilize the Angel Lamp to advance the story.
Exit through the door that leads to the outdoors and proceed to engage with the New York's Finest storyline in the new setting. Activate the Echo device, then utilize the Angel Lamp within this area. Proceed beyond the small barrier and activate the Angel Lamp while maintaining a facing position towards the police car. If accurately positioned, players will successfully bypass the barrier and gain the ability to ascend a set of stairs brightly illuminated by red lights.
Go up the stairs and ascend the ladder afterwards. Once you reach the peak of the Cinema's rooftop, proceed towards the southern direction and pass through the gate. Move towards the marked "Cinema Sign" on the map, which is accompanied by a ladder symbol. This path will lead you to a dead end, where players need to switch the story thread to the esteemed Cult of the Word. Activate the appearing Echo in order to unlock a fresh story thread titled "The Grandmaster".
Please quickly move to this location. Shadows and Taken will continue to spawn outside. There are too many to fight, so only deal with the ones that obstruct your path and run.
Return to the bottom and proceed to the location shown in the image above. Although this door was previously locked, it is now open, allowing players to re-enter the theater. Return to the Theater Hall and place the Grandmaster story thread on the scene. Enter the theater and ascend through the door on the left side to reach the stage.
Activate the Echo on the stage. Afterward, turn around and engage with the screen, which will guide players into a continuous maze. Persist in following the exit sign until eventually stumbling upon a cultist restrained in a chair. Interact with him and he will mention a knife. Proceed to the left and retrieve the knife. After obtaining it, continue to pursue the exit signs. Upon encountering a dead end, as Alan mentioned, turn around and backtrack. This will lead players to the location of the murder. Interact with the corpses to initiate a cutscene that concludes the chapter.
Exit through the right door adjacent to the bodies to access the Theater Hall. You have the choice to watch an excessively long live-action cutscene displayed on the screen, although it is completely optional. Descend the stairs that lead to the theater exit and ensure to activate the Echo on your way out. Proceed towards Parliament Tower. As you approach the entrance, the nearby phone will ring, prompting you to go right and locate it.
Once the cutscene concludes, go to the statue of Alan situated outside Parliament Tower and place Alice's pictures inside the shoebox. If players have followed this walkthrough's sequence of missions, they will now be switched back to Saga.
Alan Wake 2 is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
