During his Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony on Monday, Zac Efron took a moment to honor his friend and "17 Again" co-star Matthew Perry.
"I also want to mention someone who's not here today, and that's Matthew Perry, who was incredibly kind and generous with me while we worked on 17 Again together," Efron said in his speech.
Efron expressed how enjoyable it was to work with Perry and how it has motivated and propelled him in many ways. He thanked Matthew for pushing him into the next chapter of his career and expressed that he has been thinking about Matthew a lot today as he seemed to get emotional.
Perry passed away at the age of 54 in his Los Angeles residence in October. In the 2009 romantic comedy "17 Again," Efron portrayed the younger version of Perry's character, who is given the opportunity to relive his life as a 17-year-old.
Just before he died, Perry had shared his wish to work with Efron once more, as stated by his friend Athenna Crosby, who had spent time with the "Friends" actor the day prior. "He said that he wanted to make a movie about his life, and he had worked with Zac Efron in the past on a movie and he said that he wanted Zac Efron to play him as a younger version," Crosby revealed to Entertainment Tonight last month. She added, "He was going to ask him soon to do that."
In November, the star of "High School Musical" expressed his deep gratitude upon learning about Perry's interest in casting him. He stated, "It would be an amazing opportunity and, naturally, I am still deeply saddened by his passing." He also mentioned, "We'll just have to wait and see what happens."
