At 36, Zac Efron is showing that the wildcat spirit never dies. During the ceremony to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Efron expressed his gratitude to High School Musical director Kenny Ortega and producer Bill Borden, who were present in the audience.
"You both played an important role in helping me launch my career in High School Musical," Efron expressed on Monday, December 11. "I will always be grateful for that. I still think about it every day and even sing the songs in the shower."
Efron, who acted alongside Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale in Disney Channel's High School Musical trilogy, reminisced about his time as Troy Bolton by shouting out the movie's iconic phrase: "Go Wildcats!"
Efron expressed his elation at the ceremony, stating that having a star on Hollywood Boulevard is a dream come true for him. He confessed that he could hardly believe how he was feeling, describing the moment as surreal. Efron has been involved in acting, singing, and dancing since he was a young child, and never imagined he would be standing in front of dear friends, colleagues, and lifelong fans. He expressed his love and gratitude to everyone who has supported him throughout his career.

In addition to his High School Musical colleagues, Efron also expressed gratitude to his parents.
"I want to thank my mom and dad," he stated. "You have made countless sacrifices for me throughout my life, and I know it couldn't have been easy, but thank you for always believing in me. I wouldn't be here without you. Having you both here today is incredibly meaningful to me. Thank you for everything."
In other parts of his speech, Efron also honored the late Matthew Perry, whom he starred alongside in the 2009 film 17 Again. Perry passed away at the age of 54 in October after being found unresponsive in a hot tub. The cause of death has not been confirmed.
“It was so much fun collaborating with him and [director] Burr Steers, and it truly propelled and motivated me in so many ways,” Efron stated. “It pushed me into the next chapter of my career, and for that, thank you so much, Matthew. Thinking about you a lot today.”

Following the unexpected death of the actor, a close friend disclosed that Perry had expressed a desire for Efron to portray a younger version of him in a potential biopic.
"In hindsight, it's truly an honor to know that he had me in mind for that role," expressed Efron in November.
