Season 2 of Sweet Home on Netflix introduces a new twist to Yi-kyung's storyline with the birth of her daughter, Ah-yi. In the first season, Yi-kyung was a firefighter engaged to a scientist, but her true motives are revealed as the monster apocalypse unfolds. Additionally, it is uncovered that her fiancé is connected to the viral outbreak, and Yi-kyung is also revealed to be pregnant in the K-drama.

After being taken in by the military, the survivors are warned that their work is not yet finished, and Yi-kyung rejoins the soldiers. In Season 2 of Sweet Home, Yi-kyung's ongoing storyline takes a shocking turn that will have a significant impact on everyone's fate. The fate of Yi-kyung's daughter could either bring salvation or pure destruction. Brace yourself for some spoilers!

Sweet Home Season 2 has Yi-kyung’s daughter be a new breed of monster

Yi-kyung’s daughter is a mysterious being, potentially the first human-born monster. With her disdain for humanity and inexplicable powers, she poses a grave threat.

Viewers will be stunned as Yi-kyung searches the lab for her fiancé, whom she steadfastly believes is still alive. Dr. Lim's revelations paint a grim picture of a broken, unresponsive, almost skeletal figure that has been subjected to experimentation. There is an unexplained air of peculiarity surrounding him.

Yi-kyung locates him and collapses, overcome with intense pain. Removing her protective gear, she witnesses her stomach rapidly expanding as the baby struggles to emerge. Amidst a bomb attack on the stadium, she makes her way to a frozen lake and begins to push.

The ice beneath her gives way, sending her plunging into the water. Unconscious, she gives birth to the baby, who is still connected to her by the umbilical cord, and the newborn manages to swim to the surface with Yi-kyung in tow. Upon awakening, Yi-kyung discovers a baby covered in muck and soot, chewing on the cord.

A year has passed in Sweet Home Season 2 and Yi-kyung has been keeping her daughter, Ah-yi, a secret. However, Ah-yi demonstrates peculiar abilities that set her apart from other monsters. Despite being born looking human, a single touch from her reveals the inner dreams and desires of others. Furthermore, she has the ability to turn those she touches into monsters, while also being able to control and communicate with them.

In Episode 6, a flashback depicts a younger Ah-yi being ambushed by other survivors. Struck by arrows, she is unexpectedly healed by a mysterious black sludge. To everyone's surprise, the child version of Ah-yi undergoes a startling transformation into a teenager, revealing her powers when her eyes turn white upon touching a man. Subsequent episodes unveil that Hyun-soo raised her until Yi-kyung returned, though Ah-yi did not exhibit normal human growth.

What is Ah-yi?

Ah-yi is a first of her kind. But Sweet Home Season 2 doesn’t explore why she was born the way she was.

The reason for Ah-yi's powers and her status as a special monster remain unclear. Unlike Hyun-soo and Ui-myeong, Ah-yi was born with these abilities. In Sweet Home, the monsters are all humans who transform when their inner desires consume them. Hyun-soo is able to switch between human and monster because he still holds onto his humanity and fights against the transformation.

The only clue fans have for now is that the key to the outbreak lies with Nam Sang-won, Yi-kyung’s fiancé. Since she was pregnant before the outbreak and he was kept as an experiment, it is believed that something about Sang-won either caused or holds the answer to the outbreak.

In Season 2 of Sweet Home, Yi-kyung tearfully confides in Hyun-soo that she fears her own inner desires may have led to her child being born a monster. Is this true? It is possible that the birth was somehow connected to finding Sang-won in the lab. The nature of the monsters in the K-drama is still unclear. The characters can recognize the signs, but are unsure why there are special breeds like Hyun-soo and Ah-yi. The second season also suggests that the monsters are evolving, and Ah-yi's lack of concern for humans or humanity, and her comfort in the presence of monsters, could mean trouble.

Editor's P/S

As an enthusiastic fan of Sweet Home, I am thrilled about the introduction of Yi-kyung's daughter, Ah-yi, in Season 2. Her character brings a unique and groundbreaking element to the show as a monster unlike any seen before. The mystery surrounding her birth and her inexplicable powers have me on the edge of my seat.

Ah-yi's existence raises many questions about the nature of the monster apocalypse and the role that Yi-kyung and her fiancé play in it. I am particularly intrigued by the possibility that Ah-yi may hold the key to understanding the outbreak and potentially bringing salvation or destruction to the survivors. The show's exploration of Ah-yi's abilities and her relationship with Yi-kyung is sure to be a major highlight of Season 2.
