Why One Young Sheldon Season 7 Storyline is Destined to Fail

While Young Sheldon has some freedom to deviate from its predecessor's plot details, it seems that season 7 may push the boundaries too far. Georgie & Mandy’s Young Sheldon Relationship Can’t Work

Georgie and Mandy have always wanted different things, even before Mandy became pregnant. Whether it was her rejecting his marriage proposals or him refusing her desire to go back to work, their relationship is incompatible and doomed. The spinoff of The Big Bang Theory has mainly focused on Georgie since Young Sheldon's Halloween episode, but it is difficult to see how the show can successfully develop this plot line when viewers already know the outcome of their eventual marriage. In The Big Bang Theory, Georgie's "ex-wife" is mentioned enough times for viewers to reasonably assume that Mandy is his former partner.

Since Georgie and Mandy share a child, they will always be involved in each other's lives. However, it doesn't make sense for Young Sheldon to prolong the question of whether they will or won't be together, as it is already guaranteed that they will end up apart. During Young Sheldon season 6, when Mandy repeatedly asked Georgie to stop pursuing a romantic relationship, it was not a cute romantic comedy convention but rather a sad glimpse into their future. While many sitcoms that influenced Young Sheldon had bittersweet or tragic episodes, the fact that Georgie and Mandy's fate is already determined makes this storyline excessively dark.
