Emma Stone, a two-time Oscar winner, has shared that she is now comfortable with being called by her real name after a Hollywood tradition made her change it. At 35 years old, she disclosed that she actually prefers her birth name and has found it challenging to go by Emma for so long.

During a chat with her costar Nathan Fielder from The Curse, the actress confessed, "I just felt like I couldn't do it anymore. Just refer to me as Emily."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, April 24, when asked if she would correct a fan who called her by her real name instead of Emma, she replied, "No, that would actually be really nice. I prefer to be called Emily."

She shared that her coworkers started calling her Emily once they became more familiar with her. She also mentioned that she was requested to use the stage name "Emma Stone" as the name Emily Stone was already being used by another actress who was a part of SAG-AFTRA before her.

Interestingly, in 2018, Stone disclosed that during her youth, she actually preferred to be called Emma. This desire stemmed from her admiration for her favorite Spice Girl, Baby Spice, also known as Emma Bunton.

As a child, I had very blonde hair and my real name is Emily. However, I wanted to be called Emma because of Baby Spice. And now, I actually go by Emma," the star of Poor Things shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She mentioned that in second grade, she asked her teacher to call her Emma, inspired by Emma Lee Bunton from the Spice Girls.

During the conversation, Stone mentioned that she was not at all bothered by Jimmy Kimmel's joke about her movie Poor Things at the Oscars.

"Did he upset me?" she asked, referring to the ceremony joke. "No, I didn't call him a prick. What exactly did I say? I wasn't upset with him at all. I'll need to check that out."

During the March Academy Awards broadcast, 56-year-old Kimmel presented footage of the Best Picture nominee, Poor Things. After showing a few scenes, the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! joked, "Those were the only parts of Poor Things that we can show on TV."
