Whoopi Goldberg is going all out for Sister Act 3, and she even invited Pope Francis to make a cameo appearance.
During her interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, May 8, Goldberg, who is 68 years old, talked about her meeting with the 87-year-old pope at the Vatican in 2023.
"When I went to visit him, he actually seemed to be a bit of a fan," the actress shared. "Sister Act, hello?!"
When Fallon, who is 49 years old, inquired if Pope Francis expressed interest in appearing in her upcoming film, Goldberg responded, "No, but I extended an invitation. He mentioned he would check his schedule."
Goldberg expressed her gratitude towards Pope Francis during the interview. She mentioned that she had been attempting to meet him for a decade and finally succeeded. Despite the long wait, she remained well-behaved and avoided getting into any trouble.

Goldberg has developed a strong admiration for the pope over the years. She expressed, “I really admire this man because when people discuss who they want to see, he is the person they should talk to.” She continued, “I like him. He has upset many individuals by saying things that some may disagree with, but I agree because, after all, he is the pope. He promotes a message of inclusivity, stating, ‘We welcome everyone. We want all to join our gathering. We do not pass judgment, only God does.’”
Sister Act 3 started development in 2020 with Whoopi Goldberg returning as Deloris Van Cartier, the lounge singer turned nun. Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, announced that Tyler Perry had also come on board as a producer with Goldberg.
The upcoming movie, following the success of Sister Act in 1992 and its sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit in 1993, is set to debut on Disney Plus.
Goldberg has been advocating for a new Sister Act movie, suggesting the possibility of a third film as early as October 2020.
She shared on The Late Late Show With James Corden, "For a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it. And then quite recently, it turns out, that may not be true. People may want to see it."
Three years later, Goldberg, cohost of The View, reassured fans that the third Sister Act movie is still in the works. She mentioned that they are currently working on writing the script.
Goldberg shared in March that it can be challenging to juggle multiple tasks. She admitted that while she likes to believe she can do everything at once, she has realized that it's not always possible to handle everything simultaneously.
