Following an unfavorable ruling from the US International Trade Commission, Apple has ceased sales of its Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 in the United States due to a patent dispute. The ITC's ban on importing the affected watches has led American Apple stores to remove the products from their shelves. However, stores are permitted to sell any remaining stock, with many big box retailers still offering the latest Apple Watches.

What stores are still selling the newest Apple Watches?

The older models of the Apple Watch, along with the more affordable Apple Watch SE, were unaffected by the ruling and are still available for purchase, both on Apple's website and in their stores. The ban specifically pertains to the Apple Watch Series 6 and newer models, as well as all variants of the Apple Watch Ultra.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Best Buy was still offering the Apple Watch in various colors, with prices starting at $399. They also had the Apple Watch Ultra 1 and 2 in stock. The store confirmed that the affected watches are still available for purchase.

Meanwhile, Target is beginning to run out of certain colors of the Apple Watch Series 9. CNN has contacted Target to inquire about a potential increase in demand for the watches. Additionally, specific colors of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 are also out of stock.

Walmart is also still selling the two latest models.

On Amazon as of Tuesday afternoon, four colors were left in stock for Apple Watch Series 9 with a case and sport loop.

What happened?

In October, it was determined by the US ITC that Apple had infringed upon a pulse oximeter patent owned by Masimo, a manufacturer of medical devices. This particular pulse oximeter utilizes light-based technology to measure blood oxygen levels.

Masimo CEO Joe Kiani has accused Apple of infringing on his company's patents, as Apple filed two patent infringement lawsuits against Masimo in October 2022. Apple has also submitted an appeal to the Federal Circuit court.

On Tuesday, the company announced that it is exploring legal and technical solutions to recommence importing their most advanced watches.
