The new Bob Dylan biopic has finally begun filming after facing several production delays. This marks the first glimpse of actor Timothée Chalamet portraying the iconic folk singer.
Chalamet was seen dressed in an army-green jacket and a newsboy cap while filming "A Complete Unknown" in New York over the weekend. The movie will explore Bob Dylan's early career, sparking a mix of enthusiasm and humor among his fans.
One X user joked that he looks like he's heading to Camp Rock, a reference to a Disney movie about a musical summer camp.
Author Marissa R. Moss humorously commented, "This is not Bob Dylan, it’s simply every man who has ever tried to talk to me about Bob Dylan."
Production for “A Complete Unknown” faced delays after being announced in 2020, due to the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA strike. Despite this, the movie has received full support from Dylan, who provided director James Mangold with detailed notes on the script.
Mangold shared, “I’ve had the pleasure of spending several delightful days with him, just the two of us, chatting. He has a real passion for movies.”
The movie is not a biopic about Dylan, according to Mangold. Instead, it is centered on a specific period in the singer's life.
Mangold described it as an ensemble piece focusing on the early '60s in New York. It follows a 17-year-old boy with only $16 who hitchhikes his way to New York to visit Woody Guthrie in the hospital.
Chalamet will be showcasing his singing skills in the movie and has enlisted the help of the vocal and dialect coaches who previously worked with Austin Butler in “Elvis.”
Dylan has been known for being hard to pin down, with his life and career inspiring multiple movies. One such film, “I’m Not There” from 2007 and directed by Todd Haynes, featured six different actors portraying Dylan’s various personas. In 2019, Martin Scorsese directed a concert film titled “Rolling Thunder Revue,” which followed Dylan’s 1975 tour of the same name.
“A Complete Unknown” does not yet have a release date.
