Barry announced the fantasy action series had been saved in June, with a later announcement from executive producer Dean English indicating it would return with a film trilogy. However, in October, the showrunner revealed he wasn't involved in the new project, details of which remain sparse.
Speaking with The OCS Newsletter, Barry confirmed he wasn't involved in Warrior Nun's movie revival because of his work on other TV projects. Discussing his lack of involvement at 15:08, showrunner also indicated the upcoming film trilogy may not continue the story of the TV series. Check out what Barry had to say below:
At the time, I didn't know it was gonna be three movies, I thought it was one movie. And so I was really happy. I wasn't thinking in terms of myself at that point, I was thinking in terms of the fans and what the fans wanted, and the fact that there was an opportunity for the story to keep going. As you may realize, I work for lots of different companies on lots of different shows. As soon as Warrior Nun was canceled, I was out looking for more work.... So in my mind, I have to pay my bills, I have to feed my family. So I was not waiting for anything Warrior Nun related to happen as a professional. I was out there, doing what I do, what I've done for 30 years, which is write stories, find stories, make stories, and that's it. So for me, the announcement that this company was interested was, I felt just a thing that the fans would be happy about. I wasn't putting into any context for myself, it was just this is good news. Period. Only later did I realize that their agenda for making the film was really not going to be similar to what the TV show was. And that's their business, it's not my business, I'm, as I said, I'm a hired gun. So they can do whatever they want. And I respect that. And at the same time, I'm still working with Netflix, so I have to be respectful of their decision.
Warrior Nun Movie Trilogy Expectations
The Warrior Nun movie trilogy was originally expected to be a continuation of the Netflix series following a months-long fan campaign to revive the show. The upcoming project was also teased as the beginning of a shared universe for the franchise, incorporating planned movies and TV shows. Following this announcement, a contest for a Halo redesign was conducted, hosted by the original comic creator Ben Dunn.
However, after multiple creatives from the show - including Barry - revealed they wouldn't be involved in the film trilogy, fans began the new hashtag "#SaveOURWarriorNun." Since the Halo contest was held, there has been no news on if the trilogy will use ideas for Warrior Nun season 3 or go in its own direction. However, Barry's latest statement indicates the films may not be what fans were fighting for.
Given the showrunner's involvement with other projects, it makes sense as to why he isn't directly involved in creating the Warrior Nun movie trilogy. However, because he won't be part of the upcoming chapter of the series, it remains to be seen how faithful it will be to the show's vision. With details about the new movies still unclear, it may be some time before the franchise's next steps are revealed.
Future of the Warrior Nun Franchise

Will the new movies stay true to the vision of the beloved TV series, or will they take a different direction? The departure of multiple creatives from the show has sparked concerns among fans, leading to the creation of the hashtag "#SaveOURWarriorNun."
As the details about the new movies remain unclear, fans are left wondering about the fate of the franchise. Will the trilogy use ideas for Warrior Nun season 3, or will it pave its own path? The uncertainty surrounding the upcoming chapter of the series has left many eager for more information.
