How do mechanics like item trading and faction reputation work in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader?

The trading system in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader revolves around the reputation you've built with each faction, as well as your Profit Factor. Here's a brief overview:

Each faction in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader has its own unique item pool and vendor. Your ability to purchase items from these vendors is based on your Reputation Points (RP) and rank with that faction. Instead of using traditional currencies like gold, credits, or cash, the cost of items is determined by the Profit Factor, which functions more like a set level than a deductable currency.

Upon reaching each reputation tier and meeting the required Profit Factor, all items can be purchased at no cost.

Here’s an example: If you are at Rank 0 for a specific faction and the vendor is offering five items at Rank 0.

You have a Profit Factor of 20. The vendor offers four items that require a Profit Factor of 20 or lower. The fifth item requires a Profit Factor of 25.

You can purchase the first four items, but not the fifth. Your Profit Factor will remain unaffected. It is important to note that Profit Factor functions differently than basic currency in most other games.

When it comes to Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader faction reputation, you're looking at five distinct organizations. You can find their vendors as early as Act 1 in the Furibundus system and the planet of Footfall:

Explorators (i.e. Adeptus Mechanicus) - Talk to Opticon-22 in Footfall's Void Dock Alpha-Rho.

Disregard what you know about the usual buy-and-sell methods in video games.

Where to find faction reputation vendors in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader

Visit Hieronymus Doloroso in the southern part of Footfall Atrium to speak with the Drusians (Adeptus Ministorum). For the Kasballica Mission, head to the governor's building at the end of Footfall Atrium and talk to Vladaym Tocara.

The group of pirates known as The Fellowship of the Void can be found at the bar located at the far end of Footfall Shadow Quarters. Look for and speak to Ryzza inside.

If you come across the Imperial Navy in the Furibundus system, be on the lookout for a ship named Drusus' Blessing. Hail the ship and inquire about exchanging goods. Keep in mind that this faction specializes in selling ship upgrade parts, unlike others that offer equipment for your characters.

What's the fastest way to interact with all faction reputation vendors

If everyone is in the same star system, do I need to return there whenever I need to trade? No, thankfully, that's not the case. The best way to interact with Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader factions is by speaking with High Factotum Janris Danrok, an NPC in your voidship. He's also the same individual who allows you to respec your characters.

When conversing with Danrok, choose: "I would like to order the shipping and transportation of some goods." This will open a panel that enables you to select a specific faction.

With Janris Danrok, you can conveniently interact with faction vendors from your voidship without the need to return to Footfall each time.

How to increase faction reputation and Profit Factor

In Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, both faction reputation and Profit Factor can be increased through specific events or dialogue options, although these opportunities are limited. However, there are two more reliable methods for achieving these goals.

Giving cargo to faction vendors

You can exchange all the cargo crates you've collected from looting containers with faction vendors. Just click on the reputation tab when speaking with vendors to view the list of items they are interested in. For example, the Drusians offer more RP for Holy Gifts, while the Imperial Navy only accepts "trophies" or dropped cargo from space battles.

Once a cargo type reaches 100%, you can trade it in, as long as the faction wants that type of goods. Additionally, you can "junk" equipment such as weapons, armor, and accessories that you no longer need. Simply right-click on the item and select "Add to Cargo." A new "crate" for that category/type will be created, and it needs to reach 100% before you can exchange them for RP.

When managing colonies, you have the option to choose specific types of cargo or use the Show Tradable button. After making your selection, simply click on the Trade button to claim the RP amount displayed on the panel.

Colony projects

In the colonies under your management, certain projects may offer additional Profit Factor or RP boosts for a specific faction. It's important to note that many projects can only be accessed once you have fulfilled specific requirements, such as resources, colony stats, or a minimum amount of RP.

Projects within the colony that offer both Profit Factor and Reputation Points are undeniably alluring. That concludes our Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader faction reputation and trading guide. Keep in mind that these principles also tie in with effectively managing your resources, such as the limited Mobile Extractium devices.
