Releasing a steelbook without including the series itself may be perceived as a disappointment, particularly given Disney's recent removal of other series from its streaming platform. WandaVision, the popular Disney Plus series, is set to create Marvel Cinematic Universe history as the first platform series to have a physical release. Yet, fans who are excited to watch their favorite surreal show on Blu-ray may encounter a peculiar obstacle with the upcoming product.

WandaVision not only gained a substantial audience based on its own merits but also contributed to the hype surrounding the upcoming film, The Marvels. The series captivated viewers from the start with its innovative approach to storytelling, which incorporated various popular television show themes from different decades. Given its success, it seems fitting that WandaVision would be the first Marvel Studios show to be available for purchase in physical stores. However, the release of the show's Steelbook edition takes an unexpected turn.

Marvel Studios recently unveiled a visually appealing WandaVision Steelbook set, slated for release in the fall (as reported by Collectong). This announcement surely excited collectors of physical media, as Steelbook cases are highly sought after by both fervent enthusiasts and casual buyers. Regrettably, the peculiar aspect of this release is that it does not contain any discs, and there is currently no information regarding the inclusion of a download code. In other words, this Steelbook case is being sold without the actual series itself.

The upcoming release will not only include a case; it will also feature the Steelbook and a full slip that slides over the case. Inside the case, buyers can expect to find a folder, an envelope, character cards, and stickers. Whether or not fans consider this release to be deserving of one of the most heartbreaking moments in MCU history is subjective. However, it's understandable why some may be disappointed with the absence of physical media.

Disney's decision to keep most of its shows on Disney Plus, in order to maintain subscriptions, is understandable. They even managed to secure the rights to the highly acclaimed superhero series, Ms. Marvel, in 2022. However, it is questionable for them to announce a Steelbook release for a show without actually including the physical media itself. Although no one expects a physical release for WandaVision, an empty case feels somewhat inconsiderate.

Moreover, Disney Plus has been disappointing viewers by removing several series, such as Willow, from its streaming platform. Despite the critical reception, streaming remains the sole legal option for accessing many movies and shows. This frustrating reality, coupled with the tease of a physical release for WandaVision that is ultimately withheld, may not have been the wisest move on Disney's part.
