After admitting to behaving in an inappropriate manner and using offensive language towards a match official, Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool has been given a one-match suspension and fined £100,000. This disciplinary action comes following his red card during Liverpool's 2-1 win against Newcastle on August 27, when he fouled Alexander Isak and subsequently protested against referee John Brooks.
The centre-back was initially suspended for missing the 3-0 victory against Aston Villa due to a one-match ban. However, he will now face an additional suspension and will therefore be unable to play in the game against Wolves on September 16. The FA released a statement stating that Virgil van Dijk has been fined £100,000 and suspended for one match for violating FA Rule E3.1 during Liverpool's Premier League match against Newcastle on Sunday, August 27.

"That was not typical for me," he said.
Ref Watch on Van Dijk incident
Perspective on the Red Card Incident"But it was, without a doubt, the red card. At Liverpool, I had never received one before, and throughout my entire career, it has only occurred around four times. Nevertheless, despite this setback, I managed to kick off the season on a positive note."
Should Van Dijk have been sent off?
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher:
"I think it's a foul.
"Has he got an obvious goalscoring opportunity? Is he in possession of the ball. Yes, there's no doubt about that.
"Will he have a clear run on goal? Well, once he gets the ball he's going to move towards the goal.
"Is he outside the penalty area? Yes, so the referee has to send him off.
"He gets the ball but he gets the man first, there's no doubt about that.
"I don't think anybody can dispute it's a foul."
Could Van Dijk be in further trouble for behaviour after red card?
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher:
The outcome relies on the referee's report.
There is unquestionably a delay in his departure from the field, so we must await the referee's account of the incident in his report, which is submitted to the FA. Once that is resolved, all will be clarified.
