Danielle Brooks made a statement at the 2024 Oscars to show that she is part of history.

The 34-year-old actress walked the red carpet on Sunday, March 10, with the number "26" painted on her nails. This number represents that she is the 26th Black woman ever to receive a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars.

Brooks looked stunning in a strapless black Dolce and Gabbana gown. The dress had a corset-like top, a deep thigh slit, and a long train that splayed out to the side. The outfit was completed with sentimentally detailed nails.

Her shoulder-length hair was styled down and parted to the side. To add a touch of glam, she wore black winged eyeliner, long lashes, and dewy foundation for a flawless finish.

Brooks has been nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in The Color Purple. She is up against four other talented actresses: Emily Blunt for Oppenheimer, America Ferrera for Barbie, Jodie Foster for Nyad, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers.

In The Color Purple, we follow Celie, a Black woman living in the American South in the early 20th century. Despite facing oppression and abuse, Celie finds her voice and self-worth. Another strong character in the story is Sofia, Celie's assertive and resilient sister-in-law, portrayed by Danielle Brooks.

The Color Purple was unexpectedly left out of this year's Oscars. Only Brooks received an Oscar nomination for her role in the film, while the film itself did not receive any nominations.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight on February 12, Brooks shared her thoughts on her nomination despite the film's lack of recognition.
