Summary
Iconic horror movie villain Pinhead gets an intense makeover in new Hellraiser art, featuring organic spines instead of metal pins.
The 2022 reboot of Hellraiser received a blend of reviews, but upon its premiere on Hulu, it managed to become the most-streamed movie. The prospect of a sequel to Hellraiser is still uncertain; however, considering the franchise's track record, the likelihood of another film being made is high.
Check out the amazing new variant artwork of the iconic horror movie villain Pinhead from the Hellraiser series. Clive Barker's terrifying novella, The Hellbound Heart, was first adapted into a film in 1987, directed by Barker himself. Following a string of disappointing sequels, the Hellraiser franchise was revived in 2022 with a reboot that introduced re-imagined versions of the original movie's terrifying Cenobites, including the gender-swapped portrayal of Pinhead, previously portrayed by Doug Bradley.
While it's uncertain if the Hellraiser series will continue beyond the recent reboot, artists continue to find inspiration in the strange and twisted characters of the movies. One such example is an AI-generated depiction of Pinhead that was recently shared on the Instagram account @o.0_._enter_the_void_._0.o. Take a look at the image below:
Will Hellraiser 2022 Get A Sequel
The image takes inspiration from H.R. Giger's works and adds a terrifying twist to Pinhead, resembling the horrifying Alien. Instead of metal pins, the villain now sports organic spines, intensifying its inhuman appearance seen in the films.
Helmed by David Bruckner and penned by David S. Goyer, Hellraiser 2022 opted for a Hulu release instead of gracing the theaters in North America. Interestingly, the movie was the talk of the town on the streaming platform, garnering the highest number of views in its debut week. While critics have shown some appreciation for the film, currently holding a modest 66% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it didn't quite achieve widespread acclaim.
When director Bruckner discussed the matter with ComicBook.com in early October, he had no news to share regarding the possibility of Hellraiser 2. He mentioned that they have been eager to hear from the audience and expressed his hope for a future in that direction. However, the outcome remains uncertain.
With the Hellraiser franchise having a long-standing history (the reboot being the 11th film in the series), it is highly probable that another movie will be made in the future. It is yet to be determined if this upcoming movie will follow the storyline of the 2022 film or revert to the lineage initiated by the 1987 version and its Pinhead actor Bradley. Barker's horror universe presents ample opportunities for film adaptation, captivating enthusiastic horror audiences with its vast array of intriguing aspects. This universe will undoubtedly continue to inspire horror directors and internet artists equipped with AI technology for many years to come.
