Peace out, A-town, and hello, Super Bowl LVIII, because Usher is on the way.
Apple Music released the initial preview of the halftime show for the 45-year-old singer on Friday, January 12, featuring Usher's hit song "Yeah!" The trailer started with a gospel choir singing "Peace out, A-town" and then transitioned to fans' home videos of them singing along to the song and expressing their love for it. The preview also included nostalgic footage of Usher performing on stage.
“One performance. 30 years in the making,” a title card read at the end of the one-minute video.
Usher confirmed in September 2023 that he had been tapped to headline the halftime performance.
"It’s a once-in-a-lifetime honor to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” he said in a statement. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”
Usher, photographed by Kevin Winter/Getty Images for iHeartRadio, is already gearing up for his highly-anticipated performance at Super Bowl LVIII on February 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, as the NFL playoffs kick off this weekend.
During the "I Know That's Right" podcast in November 2023, Usher expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to him by Jay-Z, stating that he was ready for it. He mentioned that his upcoming performance would be a celebration of life, dedicated to those who couldn't be there with him. Usher emphasized that the event would mark 30 years of his career, acknowledging music as a transformative force that has helped him connect with people through shared experiences. His intent was to create music that allows for vulnerability and transparency.
Several months earlier, Usher predicted his Super Bowl prep during an exclusive interview with We.

"When it comes to doing a Super Bowl performance, I'll have to dig through all my songs to find the perfect ones for the crowd to sing along," he joked to Us in February 2023. "You have to give people that fantasy and excitement. So, there's plenty of time for it to happen, and if it does, I'll definitely make it work."
Usher further gushed that performing on the Super Bowl halftime show is a “bucket list moment” that many artists dream about.
