Diablo 4 and Magic: The Gathering are distinct games, one an online action RPG and the other a physical card game. However, they share an intriguing similarity. Magic: The Gathering frequently collaborates with other intellectual properties, such as The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth, which is part of the Universes Beyond sub-brand. This particular set features a unique card, The One Ring, reminiscent of Diablo 4's rare chase Uniques.
Chase Uniques are coveted items in gaming that come in various rarities. Diablo 4 has six ultra-rare chase Uniques, attainable only from high-level enemies with exceptionally low odds. These powerful gear pieces are so scarce that obtaining one could be a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, particularly considering the game's seasonal aspect.
Diablo 4's Chase Uniques Could be as Rare as Magic The Gathering's 2 Million Card
Diablo 4's seasons will require new characters for players to join, a common feature in the action RPG genre. However, the grind-heavy nature of the game has sparked concerns. Reaching high levels necessary for rare item drops, like chase Uniques, will be a challenge for most players. In fact, obtaining Diablo 4's best Unique items may be limited to just one or two copies per season for the entire playerbase. This rarity can be compared to The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth's The One Ring special card, which is highly sought after and has even been sold for over $2 million. Notably, this card stands out as it is the only one written in Lord of the Rings' Black Speech language, while other versions with regular text and effects have been printed.
It is likely that Wizards of the Coast will continue to release similar sets and unique cards that generate community-wide excitement. This was evident with The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth sets, which saw a significant increase in prices due to the search for The One Ring. Interestingly, The One Ring was discovered just a few weeks after the set's release, similar to the last of the six chase Uniques in Diablo 4, which was also found by a fortunate player.
However, in Diablo 4, these rare items will only be usable within the realm where they are found. This means that current copies cannot be transferred to Diablo 4's first-season characters. Given the rarity of these chase Uniques, the difficulty in obtaining them, and the restriction to either Eternal or seasonal characters, finding one can be compared to the stroke of luck experienced by the owner of Magic: The Gathering's The One Ring card. It is worth noting that while Diablo 4 items hold no value beyond the game itself, it is not uncommon for Magic: The Gathering to have expensive cards.
Diablo 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
