Josephine Langford and Drew Starkey had such great onscreen chemistry in The Other Zoey that it was impossible not to root for Zoey and Zach's love story. In an exclusive interview with We, director Sara Zandieh acknowledged the actors' incredible talent for enhancing the scenes between their characters.
Zandieh, talking to Us, expressed how the chemistry between Josephine and Drew was truly effortless. He mentioned that working with both of them was a delight, as they excelled in their respective crafts and proved to be exceptional actors. With their professional demeanor, Langford, 26, and Starkey made the filming process enjoyable and uncomplicated.
Both actors were new to comedy, but they were filled with excitement to dive into a lighter and funnier genre. Zandieh praised their talent and their professionalism, noting their ease to work with and their level of preparedness. It was a joyful experience making this movie.
"The Other Zoey" tells the story of Zoey, a college student who unintentionally finds herself in a love triangle with her classmate Zach and his cousin Miles. The situation becomes complicated as Zach, who is suffering from temporary amnesia, believes Zoey is his girlfriend. However, Zoey, who doesn't rely solely on emotions, decides that Miles is the more logical choice for her.

After realizing that Zoey is not truly his girlfriend, Zach and Zoey go their separate ways. Seeking guidance, Zoey turns to her best friend, Elle (played by Mallori Johnson), and her mother (played by Heather Graham), who encourage her to fight for Zach. The film concludes with Zoey bravely delving into her emotions for Zach. Throughout the movie, The Other Zoey showcases numerous endearing moments between the fictional couple, particularly a charming sequence where Zoey and Zach enjoy playing various board games together.
“The shooting process for the game sequence was an absolute blast. We embraced a lot of improvisation,” Zandieh shared. “There's this incredible dance sequence where they simply let loose and express themselves freely. It was pure fun. I believe that by allowing ourselves to be more spontaneous during that particular sequence, we were able to capture the most outstanding performances.”
Prime VideoZandieh further disclosed that almost all of Zoey and Zach's scenes were included in the film, stating, "I believe we didn't leave out any scenes. Pretty much everything made it into the final cut."
Although Zoey ultimately chooses Zach, there were numerous viewers who were rooting for a potential romance between her and Miles.
Zandieh stated to Us that she believes Zoey has a strong connection with both Zach and Miles. She emphasized that they made sure every scene involving both actors was excellent and would guide viewers towards that direction. The remarkable performances from Josephine, Drew, and Archie within the scenes were exceptional. Zandieh believes that the outstanding performances are what could lead viewers down either path. Nevertheless, the core message of the movie revolves around various forms of love.
