Throughout this year, Nintendo has consistently gifted Tears of the Kingdom players with complimentary items whenever the game receives a software update. Since its successful launch, Nintendo has distributed items such as the Traveler's Sword and the Soldier's Shield, as well as cooking ingredients like Lizalfos Tails and Golden Apples. Additionally, players have also received miscellaneous items like a Zonai Cart.

Now that Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's 1.2.1 update has officially launched, players can obtain an Opal and a Magic Rod by accessing the Nintendo Switch's News Channel. To claim these items, players should navigate to the News icon on their Home Screen, locate the news story titled "Gems - Not Just a Pretty Facet," and then select the "Play Now" button within the article. Following this, players simply need to start the game, load their saved file, and the free items will be automatically added to their inventory.

Opals found in Tears of the Kingdom are precious stones imbued with the power of water. They can be discovered through mining Ore Deposits, typically located in caves and around mountains. When sold, each Opal can fetch players 30 Rupees.

In Tears of the Kingdom, a Magic Rod possesses the potential to become a formidable weapon when combined with specific gemstones. Enchanting a Magic Rod with a Topaz grants the ability of electricity, a Ruby grants the power of fire, a Sapphire grants the power of ice, and an Opal grants the power of water. Players can obtain a Magic Rod by defeating a Wizzrobe or purchasing it from the Bargainer Statues in the Depths, priced at 100 Poes each.

Water-based weapons in Tears of the Kingdom are not particularly effective against most enemies in combat. Nonetheless, they serve a few specific purposes. These weapons can be utilized to forge paths through Lava for Link to navigate, preventing the player from needing to use up their Splash Fruit. Furthermore, water weapons are capable of defeating flame-based adversaries, including Fire Chu-Chus, Fire Like's, and the Igneous Talus.
