The Pokemon Company recently released a video explaining the mechanics and interaction of Pokemon Sleep with the player's sleeping habits. This new Pokemon game has garnered curiosity due to its unique ideas in the franchise. Although initially announced in 2019, it disappeared for over three years, leading some fans to believe it had been canceled. However, it is now set to launch on July 14, 2022, after various delays. To address the confusion surrounding the game, the creators have decided to share additional information.
The Pokemon Company has provided clarification on Pokemon Sleep. In a new video, they explain that the game is an app that monitors a player's sleep through their smartphone, creating a Sleep Style Dex. This Dex is similar to the classic Pokedex, but with Pokemon depicted in various sleeping styles.
In addition to monitoring sleep, the game incorporates several mechanics. For example, sleeping for longer periods of time can result in higher Sleep Scores. During the daytime, players have the opportunity to feed the iconic sleepy Snorlax, increasing its Strength. Subsequently, the Sleep Score for the night is multiplied by Snorlax's strength, providing more Drowzy Power, which enables players to capture additional sleep styles of Pokemon. As Snorlax progresses, the chances of obtaining new sleep styles also improve. However, that's not all. Gamers can utilize the app to view their wake-up and bedtime, accurately track their hours of sleep, and even listen to recordings of sleeping sounds.
Not all Pokemon fans are excited about the new game. Some players have reservations about Pokemon Sleep potentially collecting and tracking their sleep data, which they believe should remain private. In early 2023, numerous social media posts appeared joking about the upcoming title, but some expressed genuine concerns about an app that gathers extensive information on such a personal topic. Similar issues have previously been raised regarding Pokemon GO, as it tracks user location, a necessary feature when the game incorporates real-life data.
Pokemon Sleep is scheduled to be released on July 14 for iOS and Android mobile devices, with pre-registration already open.
